@davidgerard is anyone using Proton mail to send spam anyway? I understand their attempt at a justification but I cannot imagine the users asked for or appreciate it @sertaptap @davidgerard the users definitely did not, according to their own survey! https://proton.me/blog/2024-proton-survey-results @wryanfisher @sertaptap @davidgerard yes and only 29% of respondents gave a shit despite the entire survey being geared around it. @wryanfisher my takeaway was more 'damn that's a lot of resources spent on something less than a third of your customers give a shit about' but w/e. was just here to relay the survey info, i already know i'm not giving them any more of my money. I think that's a totally fair reaction. I feel like the opt-in affirmative action to enable it on a per use basis mitigates a lot of the privacy issues for me, though. For the writing assistant, at least. The LLM is not training itself on your mail corpus I don't think. @brhfl @sertaptap @davidgerard I just submitted a ticket through their mobile app that I will cancel my service with them if they don't remove it. @davidgerard fucking hell man. Between this and Fastmail being anti-union we truly can’t have anything good Just fucking yesterday a friend and I were talking about migrating away from gmail and everything else google and I told her about Protonmail, saying that is going to be my choice and...oh jeezusfuckinghellchristonastick why can't we have nice things for once? Just for once? Anyone know if Tuta has jumped on the AI stupidity bandwagon? They were/are my second option, but they look much better now. Was also literally just thinking it's time to complete my move to ProtonMail from Google because of all the privacy team shake up at G... Now what do? This is super disappointing. Maybe less disappointing to me after reading the blog post from the actual ML head, rather than the community manager. @davidgerard On the other hand, they've had 'Proton Sentinel' as an opt-in for a while, which has this blurb: "Proton Sentinel is an advanced account protection program powered by sophisticated AI systems and specialists working around the clock to protect you from bad actors and security threats. Public figures, journalists, executives, and others who may be the target of cyber attacks are highly encouraged to enable Proton Sentinel." @davidgerard that is surprising, given how enthusiastic their users are about privacy @davidgerard husband and I were very seriously thinking we would pay for their mail service, happy we didn't jump on it...guess we will wait and see what comes of this. @davidgerard that’s disappointing as I was planning on switching to Proton Mail in the very near future. @davidgerard I took part in that survey and was put off that they were even considering it. Hopefully when the fad washes over and nobody finds any actual usefulness out of it, it'll be scrapped |
@davidgerard what the shit-blistering fuck?
