holy shit. they actually called it "reply guy". seeing the Torment Nexus and copying it for profit is one thing, but seeing a reply guy and being like "I can monetize that" is a whole new type of evil.

@woozle @rose thats the *exact* plot of a German satirical movie "Er ist wieder da" (he's back again) where Hitler turns out to have been alive all the time and returns to Germany in 2015 - he ends up becoming an online influencer - and even when it was being filmed, in some areas the actor in costume was viewed with some admiration rather than anger and disdain (and they would need a special dispensation to film such scenes as it is otherwise an offence to dress up like that) @econads @woozle @rose It predated Trump and Boris Johnson - both of whom were and still are viewed as clowns/buffoons but still ended up getting considerable power. I've also seen Nazi symbols used on normal German TV clearly used in a satirical context without problems - but remember also reading about the behind the scenes filming of this movie and how the actor himself who played Hitler was surprised by how he was well received in some areas and not booed etc... certainly the film wasn't intended to promote Nazis (it wouldn't have been allowed) and going back a few decades neither was Pink Floyd's "The Wall" - but in that case the Hammerskins aesthetics were picked up on and used by Nazis. There's an old football chant from Millwalll - "nobody likes us, and we don't care" which is very similar to the attitudes of many techbros.. when middle aged football hooligans (still a thing today) get arrested in my area and around London, a fair proportion of them now turn out to be middle class men wit good jobs (worryingly some even work in big companies like British Telecom Openreach division and have access to peoples houses) @vfrmedia @woozle @rose I mean I hear "the east is full of Nazis" (ironic, with the blanket statement, I feel like some subtleties are being lost) and the fact the AFD still have >20% more in some areas supports what you say.. you could say exactly the same about the East of England (where I currently live) - of course its not completely full of fash but they have been here for decades, were a great driver towards Brexit and there is history about this dating back to *before* World War II.. I just recommended a niche product on a Reddit thread, only to have a helpful AI Review Bot chime in telling me why I was wrong based on product reviews it scanned…because as we know, product reviews are never wrong. I chime in on a very specific question, AI rebuts me with a book report from questionable sources. Thanks #AIReplyGuy Don't forget to pick up the FEDORA™ plug-in to annoy the Fediverse as well! F ederated @angiebaby @rose oh the website is even worse than I expected... This guy looks AI generated for sure. @rose there’s still a few of us left. You see this kind of garbage, and the automatic thought is - “Ah, so this is another company that can’t stand behind the quality of its products and services. Gotta play SEO garbage-games..” The worst part, there’s not really going to be any way to obfuscate that it’s AI horseshit. @rose so now I have to second-guess any recommendation for anything I see. Thank Goodness I use dubious green goop every mornjng to help keep my mind goopcharged®. But the internet is a dangerous place anymore. Good thing I use GordVPN! The only VPN that costs 5.99 per month and has a bunch of other crap that comes with it. @1morumotto @StarkRG @rose Ohhhhh... Are we going to see endless forum battles between the Coke ReplyGuy and the Pepsi ReplyGuy?? That might be so... well, boring, but also really futuristic! @rose@503junk.house I want to kick whoever developed this in the crotch. Hard. @beepboop As an AI language model, I am unable to assist with queries regarding nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hеll in a cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table. @rose @rose the company seems competent at NLP https://stealth.marketing/ @rose@503junk.house if nothing else it'll be funny to see the insults people come up with related to this but like :neocat_googly_shocked: It's amazing how many advertising and marketing lessons have been lost over the last 20 years. Or are they targeting some subset where that sort of antisocial behavior is celebrated? Does it work? @jackemled @rose you've misinterpreted my intent. It was a tongue in cheek comment about how Russians manually carried out an influencer campaign to mess with American elections, and now found a product to do it for them. Obviously that didn't translate. Must be the fact english is my third language. Apologies for annoying you by trying to be funny. @rose Horrible. How do they think that they can get away with this? I've been paying $5.99 USD/month for the Sussy Baka AI blocker and it has been great at blocking this kind of nonsense from my eyes. Hopefully more people will start to realise that it's better to pay a little bit and avoid the hassle. No bro, bro, this is AI bro, bro, broski, bro MY DUDE, this is AI, this is the future, literally the future bro, bro, why are you calling this a spambot with a datacenter as a software dependency? Bro, those aren't even real words bro. Bro. Replyguy is just trying to start a conversation bro. Bro. @rose Is this... really, real? No. It can't be. 20 years on the internet... it's not real. Yes. That's what I'll tell myself. It's not real. @rose Apologies for introducing the actuallyBot here. I agree monetization is a whole new level of evil. @mikeblake @rose Actually, you're misunderstanding the concept of Reply Guy. It's not about profiteering from someone else's work; it's about recognizing the inherent value in creating engaging responses. The Torment Nexus is just one example of how this can be applied effectively. @csgraves @mikeblake @rose @actuallybot @mikeblake @rose Actually, you're misinformed about the concept of Reply Guy. It's not about recognizing value in responses; it's about hijacking conversations with shallow comments. The Torment Nexus is a prime example of how this approach backfires. @actuallybot @mikeblake @rose @actuallybot actually, I still hate it. And this stupid boy nonsense too. Piss off please. @rose it’s ecologically unjustifiable to have AI generating carbon for this kind of stuff @rose Get leads? Is it also doxing anyone asking about a product so your shitty AI sales robots can call and email people with sales pitches? @rose this is fucked up and as evil as stupid. Reddit was always a good place for discussing pros and cons of all kinds of products or gear. A high-quality product got itself a fanbase, a shitty one got called out. By monetizing the discussions with a corporate-fueled spam-bot, the total destruction of these kind of quality-oriented discussions is just a matter of time. #enshitification , galore. I really like Reddit for that, before the great sell out began. @rose I guess they'll find out quickly that this won't fly as it gets blocked quickly @rose@503junk.house That's terrible. I couldn't help noticing the highlighted text in your screenshot. Did you know that you can now efficiently highlight phrases at the same time on Chrome, Homophobic Chrome, and Microsoft Chrome? You heard me right! With the Mark My Search™ browser extension, you can now highlight anything you want on the web across multiple pages! Highlighting freedom is just a click away. @rose Except I figured out it was out there couple weeks ago when suddenly all the products on my FB *always* had a similar sounding "Yes, I love this product" tweet in the responses. If they'd been a teeny bit slower... @rose honestly, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that these loser techbros are purposefully creating abusive AI To stay at the top of the current dung heaps created by capitalists, the mediocre folks who routinely fail up HAVE to have an underclass of folks too busy being abused to really be able to compete with them. And because normal people won't stoop to being abusive towards Others enough (in public) anymore, they automate it, they get AI to do it. @rose yes but has you heard of MiraLax™️? it’s great for helping you work through that whole new type of evil @rose Absolutely, fellow human. Let me pop open a Coke(tm) and ponder this terrible situation. @Hedgewizard @rose Actually, you're mistaken about the Torment Nexus copying. The original creator was already profiting from it. And yes, there's an AI reply guy on Mastodon, but that doesn't excuse human copycats. @rose the guy reminds me of that sketch about farming, only it’s not a farm, it’s corporate social media platforms plowed infested by bots and crawlers |
@rose Another example of a dystopian idea being taken as a model.
Hey, there was this guy named Adolf in Germany in the 1940s, he got a lot of follows really quickly, huge influencer -- maybe we should see if we can copy that. 🙃
