@BlackAzizAnansi they’re seriously doing a full scale information war, It’s not just the book bannings, and they’ve been quietly throwing out books in libraries for decades, even shit like PBS documentaries are increasingly difficult to find… (obviously lower quality but ) most History Channel Documentaries from the 90’s are impossible to find. . . terrifying 1994: Whoo hoo! We have unlimited information accessible to the human race! 2004: How can we monetize access to the human race? 2011: OMG when humans can communicate and empathize (AND ORGANIZE) with each other, monetizing them is more difficult. 2016: Let’s leverage themselves against each other and extract whatever we can. 2023: Let’s replace them and memory hole the previous 30 years. It all started with the removal of Civics related classes at the middle school level and above. GenX was the last generation, I'm afraid, to have been taught the realities of U.S. government. From learning what powers the POTUS actually has to understanding the importance of voting. The GOP simply does not want a population of intelligent people because we can't be controlled without force, nor can we be forced. @jeff @BlackAzizAnansi even in European countries with more liberal democracies, so much has been lost to libraries via weeding of "unpopular/old" books, and from public service broadcasters archives. In this case its not as much a conspiracy as cost cutting - destroying the content means they are no longer potentially liable for repeat fees to the creators (especially music rights payments) @otfrom @BlackAzizAnansi I have often thought it might be helpful for communities to make a habit of hosting offsite backups for friends, family, and neighbors. And what good are backups if they're not verified once in a while? The moral case for piracy has never been stronger. If everything streams, the only way of preserving many items of cultural/historical value is piracy. There's often no legal way of getting your own copy any more. @BlackAzizAnansi Why did they destroy twitter? because it was a useful organizing and knowledge sharing platform. mastodon is great, but it's not what twitter was back in the day. @BlackAzizAnansi https://archive.org/search?query=creator%3A%22NowThis+News%22 @BlackAzizAnansi Pretty sure I've said this before and recently, but this is WB-Discovery post-merger right-wing bullshit purging any content it perceives as left-of-center thanks to ideologues John Malone and David Zaslav. EDIT: add link (should save a copy of this before it disappears, too) https://www.vox.com/2022/8/26/23322761/cnn-john-malone-david-zaslav-chris-licht-brian-stelter-fox-peter-kafka-column I hate this. I hate corporations being in charge of everything. I hate corporations being in charge of anything. @BlackAzizAnansi I'm not shocked When you're owned by a "mass media" company like Vox Media you lose control over everything. Your site will someday be dumbed down to a content mill battling for search results rankings and clicks per day. |
@BlackAzizAnansi I loved those NowThis videos. They were so informative.
