They are staging a fascist rally in Madison Square Garden. This is not a drill. Do not sit out this election. The result of the election is absolutely consequential and will affect so many lives for generations. In a study in Finnish daycare centers, researchers found that air purifiers decreased children's illnesses by as much as 18.2 percent. We must pass legislation that incentivizes and requires clean indoor air. https://yle-fi.translate.goog/a/74-20089670?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp

@luckytran @luckytran @luckytran visiting my daughter's Kinder for the first time this week (she starts next year) I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to find not one but TWO fancy air purifiers! This is a small Kinder in rural Australia with a maximum 22 students: was already happy with the odds of low numbers, but this was just such an unexpected bonus. No idea why it has them, if the service provider is extra on the ball, or government grants, but I'm very thankful! This is horrible. Reporting from Reuters revealed that the US military ran disinformation campaigns, including creating fake social media accounts, to sow doubt in the quality of COVID vaccines, masks, and tests produced by other countries.

Hospitals in South Australia have paused elective surgeries and declared an internal emergency due to staff being sick with COVID. The pandemic is not over. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-30/sa-public-hospitals-in-internal-emergency/103915690 "Go to an old cemetery. See all the baby graves from before the 1950s & 60s? After that, hardly any. That's when people started vaccinating their children against deadly childhood diseases. If you're unsure what to do to protect your kids, the answer is literally written in stone." — Michael Okuda Without vaccines, many transmissible diseases were once an early death sentence. People are so quick to forget how fortunate we are to have access to them.

@luckytran @luckytran @howelloneill there have to be more of us who care about not living in this vile world being built. @luckytran Girls & women received informal training in practical nursing. My Mom in the 1950s was kind of cold & indifferent but if one of us kids got sick we had her attention. Vitals monitored, fluids pushed, favorite foods offered, a bell to ring if we needed her. I don’t know how working parents today would be able to care for a child with mumps, measles, chickenpox, whooping cough, or diphtheria People need to understand: Both X and Meta are trying to be an all-in-one social app similar to WeChat in China. Monopolies are dangerous and we are already seeing information-restricting moves like X removing headlines and Threads prohibiting searches on public health words like Covid and vaccines.

I assume BlueSky is trying too. The AT protocol (used instead of Activity Pub) is a hint. @luckytran Elon keeps saying he wants X to be an all-in-one social app, but he's been doing everything possible to push people away from it short of taking the site down entirely. Imposing limits on DMs and the number of posts and comments users can read is not going to make most people want to use X for everything. And he wonders why advertisers are losing interest. @luckytran People especially need to understand it because neither company/CEO made any kind of secret of it. When they tell you who they are, believe them. Twitter/X is now removing headlines from links and Threads/Meta is prohibiting searches of public health terms like Covid and vaccines. Billionaires are dangerously restricting people’s access to news.

@luckytran I am so happy that after 15 yrs I deleted my bird account 3 days ago. Now just trying to reconnect to those I followed there. The pandemic is not over until every person has access to treatments for Long Covid and higher risk people are not locked out of society. Higher risk people not locked out of society = continuing layers of prevention everywhere including better vaccines, free n95 masks, clean air infrastructure and more. "The era of global warming has ended. The era of global boiling has arrived. The air is unbreathable, the heat is unbearable, and the level of fossil fuel profits and climate inaction is unacceptable. Humanity has unleashed destruction. This must not inspire despair, but action." — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres

Humanity has unleashed destruction. really ? mmm I miss something ! @luckytran If you feel inspired to take a stand, there are encampments of land and water protectors led by local indigenous groups in many of the remaining undeveloped areas that could use more bodies and support. Colonial governments have made these encampments illegal, but I argue that making passive action against further fossil fuel extraction illegal makes those governments complicit in the murder of our biosphere. We're being led off a cliff, will you follow or find a new path? In the last 48 hours: Rome beat its all time temperature record by a whole two degrees Celsius. China beat its all time temperature record by almost two degrees Celsius. Death Valley narrowly missed the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth. And there's more to come...

@luckytran Yep and it’s going to be a VERY uncomfortable summer here is Australia, not looking forward to it at all. Concerned for all the wildlife and native vegetation that are already stressed and under pressure. Come on people, let’s do everything we can as individuals and as societies to stop further increases in GHG emissions and embrace renewables… and waste not want not? Wow. This is what New York's skyline looks like right now due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires.

@luckytran as a Canadian, I feel strangely compelled to apologize on behalf of the fires. COVID-19 has erased two decades of life expectancy growth in the US. Yet, leaders are still trying to gaslight us into believing that the US had one of the best responses to the pandemic. They told us, "we can bring back masks when hospitals are full." Yet: Where are the mask mandates? #BringBackMasks Timeline cleanse: This baby elephant messing around with an on air reporter is totally adorbs 🥰 (h/t Sheldrick Wildlife Trust)

@luckytran I am impressed with the reporter's professional commitment. Were I in his situation, I'd have have lost my composure quite a bit sooner! @luckytran I saw that yesterday and it is *so* good. Put a huge smile on my dial, and on my teenaged daughter's face too (she'd had a rough day). |
@luckytran Can we also skip ahead to the killing Nazis part? That is what happened after that rally.
@luckytran
A remake of when Nazis took Manhattan, 1939.
@luckytran Who exactly is ‘they’?
