Mostly because of the continuous display of stupidity is my observation… Correction, evil and stupidity. @MostlyHarmless luckily, Marcus Aurelius already freed us from the obligation to have a take on everything. "You always own the option of having no opinion. There is never any need to get worked up or to trouble your soul about things you can't control." Or, as Rick Sanchez (of Rick and Morty) said it: "Just don't think about it". Helps keep sanity. Today marks 10 years since my daughter, Olivia, passed away. I shared some thoughts about it and details about my 11th Extra Life this Saturday. We're close to raising an all-time total of $50,000 raised for Lurie Children's Hospital in Olivia's honor. I hope you can help us reach our goal. https://www.mikeaparicio.com/posts/2024-10-31-halloween/ I've always wanted the opportunity to talk about the #IndieWeb at a meet-up, so I'm pretty stoked to be speaking at the next OpenUK Digital alongside @calumryan It's an online event at lunchtime, so if your extra screen is free, join us! 😁 @ffconf is just over 3 weeks away. My untested theory is that both offices and houses now being open plan have put us in constant sensory overload. @anarodrigues Huh. Probably. My office is nice with separate rooms that have 2 or 3 desks in each. But I remember working in a cube farm. Wasn't nice. @anarodrigues I moved from "open plan" to "separate rooms" a couple of years ago. Best decision, would do it again! On top of what you mentioned, being able to compartmentalize a mess (like cooking in the kitchen) without that mess being practically *everywhere* is just very useful. What I've learned from all the DIY dress form videos I've seen is that I better start saving to buy one instead 🙃 I know you're probably joking but .. A: YES if you are draping instead of using commercial patterns b: NO - If you ware shaped like a normal human ... The dirty clothes sewing secret is that 'Commercial' and 'Standardised' patterns from the big manufactured fit *No Real Person*. They are designed for the Platonic Ideal of 'average' (normally female) @anarodrigues I have dyslexia so I avoid math whenever possible ! If you'd like I can recc some books / youtube videos Sorry for bombarding you with info. I hope you find some of it useful on your sewing journey - like any craft it's something you can always learn something new about :) @anarodrigues whaat? they still exist? I saw them live at a festival 21 years ago and haven't heard anything of them since then. @anarodrigues have you been watching? Have you been waiting? In the shadows for this time? if you feel optimistic about the web/online life, what makes you feel that way? technologies? people? policies? movements? web/online/tech doomers dni my head is filled with doom lol (criticism isn't doom necessarily but I need answers) please reshare!

@oluOnline I feel optimistic as we’re creating our own spaces with like minded people across all types of skill levels to get together and chat about making websites together over at the Cafe https://32bit.cafe Each week we have new people jumping on, some with no experience who end up with their own website within a couple of weeks. Small communities like ours make me optimistic for the web ☺️ @oluOnline beyond all enshittification efforts, the “good old web” lives on. It's very hard for web tech to actually die: even when it goes into disuse, there are corners of the internet that stick to it, keep it alive, and improve on it, and when the shitty platform of the decade will have passed, the strongholds of independence will still be there. There will be an #IndieWeb Camp in #SanDiego in December 2024. We would love to have you join or spread the word to folks with their own personal websites looking to do more with them! https://events.indieweb.org/2024/12/indiewebcamp-san-diego-2024-7C9aq9A4Zv9m #SmallWeb #SlowWeb Maybe one day, I will write about how it messed me up when I realised through Google Console that many visitors to my blog are landing there because they mistake my URL for "pro-ana" content. I didn't know what that meant at the time, and I was deep in the struggle of accepting my new post-partum body. But maybe not. @anarodrigues there was a café in my town that had the same initials as "child p***ography" and because they named themselves "Café CP", googling that name would keep giving a warning banner atop the search results. Easy and innocent mistake to make and annoying to be 'punished ' for something beyond your control :( The video of my talk from #sotb2024 is up. I live-code Daft Punk on stage to give a whirlwind tour of the Web Audio and Web MIDI APIs, and reflect on what the Web does better than any other platform. Please watch and share! I'm back from holidays and I got a few busy weeks ahead: 🎙️ Speaking at OpenUK Digital: https://www.meetup.com/openuk/events/303912333/ 🎤 Speaking at https://halfstackconf.com/london 🎟️ Attending @ffconf 🎤 & attending @gitnationorg https://jsnation.us (remote) See you there? ✨ I got a whole new level of respect for everyone who does video content after recording and editing my talk for https://jsnation.us/ (remote) 🥵 It's so hard!! It was a great exercise, though, and I'm glad I tried. HalfStack is one of my favorite web conferences. ✨ November the 13th they are back again in London and the lineup looks great. I will definitely be there. 🎉 🎟️ Tickets are still available! Most programming technical tests reveal more about the people who set them than the people taking them. |
@anarodrigues @ffconf Have fun!
@anarodrigues @ffconf See you there!
