I'm really really really not interested in computers getting more powerful.
I am super interested in them being more repairable and modifiable, drawing less power, lasting and being supported for way longer etc. That stuff still gets me excited

This NDA stuff is showing who Meta consider to be the shot-callers within this network, and also which of those shot-callers recognise themselves as such. I thought this was an *open* network; Why are these discussions happening behind closed doors? If Meta can't show the basic curtsey of entering this network with the open-ness and transparency people expect from open networks, how can we expect them to ever be trustworthy or acting in good-faith? *Especially* given their proven track record of already being *actively dangerous* at a global scale in a humanities sense. Now is a fantastic time to follow along with what @gotosocial is up to and support them if you can x

Quote posts and broader search capabilities here without more effective privacy and moderation tools being delivered first will be insufferable very quickly. You can search for this toot and quote me on that later. I'm afraid you are right. We can be found just about anywhere we want to be left in peace and just have fun and talk about stuff with people who aren interested in the same stuff. The privacy functionality should be in place before any general search is possible for users. :blobsad: @Shrigglepuss maybe a silver lining is that it will force Eugen to eventually find a real solution, rather than the leaky, half-assed privacy options that are currently available. A fedi-tip or whatever it's called for people that follow a fuck-ton of people by accident like me: Also get out of the habit of scrolling for hours, I dip in for a few minutes here and there through the day and if I miss something I miss something, no big deal x The only conceivable reason I can think of for this is to put an animated gif of a cat to stroke on it. And is it worth it? Sort of yes, mostly no though let's be real A fun bit of trivia about this touchpad btw is that it's manufactured by Toshiba and not Asus. Toshiba knew better than to add it into their own laptops it seems When making a joke always consider: Who is the joke for, and is anyone the butt of the joke? If so: Who and why? Is it causing harm or dog whistling or a microagression? That is to say, a lot of people here specialise in shitposts that on the surface to most people appear harmless or just a silly bit of inconsequential edgy fun, but to others create an awful hostile and toxic environment, particularly rooted in antiblackness and ableism to name the two key examples I see on this platform the most. And even worse, people join in riffing on this awful nonsense and the poison spreads from there really. Let's be a bit more considerate yeah? Does anyone even know which way to twist the handle on a radiator to make it warmer or colder? It's a mystery |
@Shrigglepuss agreed. same
I'm writing (slooooowly) a book about sw/hw performance
@Tamasg @Shrigglepuss In a long term, we must remake all of the hardware and software architectures in order for them to become simpler. the simpler, the more repairable.
@Shrigglepuss@godforsaken.website I wanna see everything get cheaper, the only thing that needs increases is storage.
I want a 50 euro machine in 10 years to do what 500 euro does today
