Switzerland now requires all government software to be open source https://www.zdnet.com/article/switzerland-now-requires-all-government-software-to-be-open-source/ by @sjvn Switzerland is one of the world's leading #opensource countries; now, if only the United States could follow its lead!

@sjvn why am I this bothered by the fact that there is an Y instead of a Z between the T and U keys on that keyboard?
I'll have to give this a whirl on #SteamDeck 👀 @aaronsgiles I love that DREAMM supports Outlaws. Unfortunately, the combination of being closed source and having telemetry/reporting enabled by default is a dealbreaker for me. I expect many people won't care, but unless pinheads like me express that opinion, regular folks might not know that open-source opt-in software is a real thing. :blobcatgamer: Too funny: In 2010 McAffe caused a global IT meltdown due to a faulty update. CTO at this time was George Kurtz. Now he is CEO of #crowdstrike https://www.zdnet.com/article/defective-mcafee-update-causes-worldwide-meltdown-of-xp-pcs/

they don't pay the price for their mess. society does. also see: data breaches. regulatory capture. climate change. disaster capitalism. move fast and break things. Short-termism. too big to fail. @Infrogmation the missing piece of the puzzle for me is the risk to shareholders. Shareholders don't care about systems being down if the lost revenue and repair costs are less than the money they made through the layoffs. CEOs mostly spend their time trying to delight their real customers, the shareholders.

I am seeing this more often. There is no reason to do this in 2024. 1998 when Mosaic and IE had different ideas about what HTML is.... sure... @luciedigitalni Instead of investing time and effort to make such #FUD popups they should.fix their #shitsite! @luciedigitalni Seriously, there are 2.5 major browsers. It's not that hard to support them. Especially since W3 standards have been around for freaking ever now. Devs no longer have the excuse of writing for IE's weirdo systems that basically broke W3 standards on purpose back in the day. At this point there literally is no reason to not work on basically any browser. the duality of blob
