Nextcloud "acquires" Roundcube. This is amazing! https://nextcloud.com/blog/open-source-email-pioneer-roundcube-comes-aboard-nextcloud/ I have never liked the idea of using environment variables to pass important information, like is common for Dockerized deployments. Here's a terrible consequence: @J12t It's truly a shame because the former Soviet Union is actually very diverse! For instance, Stalin moved a whole bunch of Koreans from Siberia to Kazakhstan where they are now a huge part of the culture. But instead of even giving lip service to that diversity, the powers that be seem to be increasingly disgusted by it :( Listening to the first episode of @mike ‘s new podcast “Dot Social” on decentralized social networking with guest @mmasnick. They start off with discussion of his 2019 paper “Protocols, Not Platforms” and how, all of a sudden, the stagnant big social platforms are now being bypassed with rapid innovation by developers all over the fediverse. Now in the dot-social podcast episode, @mike and @mmasnick discuss how much #fediverse and #threads users understand the proposition of “own your followers”. They come to the conclusion: probably not much. (I would agree.) This is really weird: #Safari on #iPad. Anybody any ideas? I run an air quality sensor on my LAN at a hostname served from the local DNS (which runs on my gateway). If I access this host from Safari in regular mode, it comes up just as expected. If I access this host in a "private tab", I now get this (screenshot). The content is what you get if you access the gateway (not my sensor!) without a valid virtual hostname. Why would it access the gateway? And what "privacy protections"? Elephants 1, human drivers 0. https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/28/asia/elephant-baby-malaysia-highway-accident/index.html "The overall mission of the Next Generation Internet initiative is to re-imagine and re- engineer the Internet for the third millennium and beyond." A thousand-year-plus plan? Wow. Harvested some leeks from the backyard hydroponics system today. But I don’t know many recipes that use leeks, so I came across a chance find in the Silver Spoon (Italian cookbook) called simply Leeks and Ham, which turned out to be excellent. I’d never come across so many tasty new recipes if I didn’t have so many kinds of veggies in my yard. It forces you out of the usual, and in this case into the unexpectedly very tasty! Would never happen when buying from the grocery store. Happy Thanksgiving today to all who celebrate! While the state of the world certainly could be (much!) better, there is still very much to be very thankful for. Tempted to open my Twitter just to see all those ads that everybody is talking about. It’s not just harassment (and worse) of minorities. It’s also harassment of judges and court employees who are trying to do their job. (Dozens and dozens of “serious and credible” messages every single day!) We need to stand by them as well. https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/22/politics/trump-gag-order-threats-judge-clerk/index.html The weirdest thing: as soon as the demand for high performance GPUs drops from #blockchain, demand for high performance GPUs from #ai explodes. @J12t yep. I don't get why proof-of-work hasn't yet been based on an AI training algorithm. then the proverbial stone would have killed both birds. So the net result of the #OpenAI drama appears to be that Microsoft gobbles up the valuable parts (read: the top people) of OpenAI. Didn’t the board see this very scenario coming? I’m sure it was really hard to get Microsoft to invest >$10b instead of acquiring them outright, so of course they jump at the first opportunity to do that by other means. Hard to believe the remaining Microsoft billions are still to flow to OpenAI after this. The only comment I have on the #openai saga is about their board: Tell me that you are new to this, without telling me you are new to this. |
@J12t ooooooooooh 🎉
I am running both Nextcloud and Roundcube in my infra, and wished for a long while Roundcube was a bit more closely integrated.
At the same time Nextcloud Mail app is usable but quite simple and somewhat lacking.
This is fantastic news!
