@matt So, StackOverflow for Mastodon. 🙂 Sounds great, but the searchability is the main concern. Masotodn search is still measly, which means such threads can never really become an effective knowledge base the way SO has. Not without some extra curation tools. (Which, you know, could also be built potentially...) You have every right to block whoever you want (and a quick story!) https://birchtree.me/blog/you-have-every-right-to-block-whoever-you-want/ I'm still so pleased with the Mastodon 4.2 update that bumped hashtags at the end of post below the rest of the content. Great job, @Gargron and team 🙌 Bonus shout out to @nileane's custom CSS which makes them look even better https://github.com/nileane/TangerineUI-for-Mastodon Here’s my hope for :apple_rainbow: on Tuesday. 1. Have the event, don’t even mention a new iPhone. 2. When people ask, simply reply “Apple doesn’t comment on unannounced products” 3. Press goes home…befuddled 4. Drop a press release at 4PM announcing the new phone Why? Why not? You’re the biggest company in the world, get a little weird!

Mastodon working on nicer hashtags https://birchtree.me/blog/mastodon-working-on-nicer-hashtags/ My never-ending battle to convince early adopters that UI and UX actually matter https://birchtree.me/blog/my-never-ending-battle-to-convince-early-adopters-that-ui-and-ux-actually-matter/ The Threads beta on Android has some new text found in the code that explains the fediverse to users. I’m telling you guys, they’re going to go ahead with the ActivityPub thing 😋 https://9to5google.com/2023/07/10/threads-readies-handy-explainer-of-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/ @matt I’m honestly very excited for that day. After like a day of poking at Threads, I’ve forgotten to check it (because I’ve always been a chronological timeline boy). But I love that there are regular folks (and brands/teams/orgs) there and want them in my preferred experience of Ivory. @matt if threads is what it takes to get brands and influencers to the fediverse then i'm totally fine with that. Credit where it's due, the Android version of the official Mastodon app is much nicer with it's latest update. It's a Material You app, which means the UI conforms to the system color scheme I have set up on my phone, and instantly makes it look and feel much nicer than most other apps.

The r/Pics subreddit has come back, but their new rule is that you can only post sexy pics of John Oliver. This subreddit has 30 million subscribers. My number one #Mastodon tip for people is to boost more! Discovery sucks on Mastodon, which is partially by design, but it also means it’s hard to find new and interesting people here. If you see something cool, reach for that boost button as well!

@matt@isfeeling.social I've started using something called https://calckey.social/ and it smoothed out discover process a bit, also UI sucks less. Yesterday I migrated to a new Mastodon server and recorded the whole process. I hope this short tutorial can give other people the confidence that they can do it too if they ever feel inclined.

@matt Well that's useful! I don't wanna migrate but I do think about: what if I have to, one day? Thank you. Very nice of you to do such a cleanly shot and produced guide. @matt |
