Here’s what parenting can look like.

When I told my dad I was trans, my dad’s response was, “Oh! I can send you jewelry now!” (He was retired and made jewelry as a hobby).

Two days latter, I had a letter in the mail addressed to Joelle, the first time “Joelle” ever got mail, with a necklace in it. Later he made me this one. He told me, “I hope I got the colors right, I looked it up online.”

You don’t have to mourn a child transitioning. You can be the first to do so many affirming things.

The most common gender affirming surgery is breast augmentation -- in cis (non-trans) women.

The regret rate is around 20%.

Gender affirming surgeries in trans people have around a 1% regret rate.

Guess which people need approval from a mental health provider...

@joelle I was an orthopedic massage therapist & fitness trainer for years, & let’s just say I ran into a lot of clients with regrets & back problems

@joelle I’d have guessed circumcision is the most common gender affirming surgery, but only in minors.

As someone majoring in #GenderStudies, I think I'm going to start answering, "What are you studying?" with "Dangerous, forbidden knowledge that is illegal in the State of Florida."

@joelle

oooh this is inspirational, now when asked what kind of person am I, I can answer that I'm illegal in Florida.

Ed Cates

@joelle Awesome, inspired answer, but also doesn't narrow it down very much. Sadly.

If you're a news outlet who doesn't mention the possibility of transphobia as a reason an out trans girl was killed (or even that she was trans), but does mention trans status any time a trans person commits a crime, you are creating an enemy the public can't sympathize with, but only can see as a risk to themsleves.

I am so tired.

@joelle I have noticed that. I have also noticed they do exactly the same thing with skin color. Skin color is only mentioned when the perpetrator isn't White.

@joelle Any chance you could still add a content warning to this? :(

It's honestly quite triggering to constantly read about the situation with no way to filter it

@joelle Jamelle Bouie hit the nail on the head just the other day: "There is no world in which their freedom is suppressed and yours is sustained."
