I am pretty tired of the argument in the FOSS community of "you can't tell them what to do in their free time", "you're getting it free" etc etc every time people discuss features, what's missing, what they want etc.

Might as well never discuss or want anything with that line of thinking.

@gamingonlinux anecdotally, I guess, but I usually only see those kind of responses when people show up and demand stuff, usually accompanied by insults -- not politely suggesting or discussing features

Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

It should go without saying: I don't mean people actually acting like arseholes or literally demanding things.

The problem is how the above has quickly become what everyone is told when even just discussing features, or the lack of them.

@gamingonlinux I'd put along with that "If you want the feature, implement it yourself". Sure, more people contributing to a project is usually a good thing, but not everyone can, and those who could are more likely to be put off with that attitude.

@gamingonlinux probably… but just in case… I might need to stock up on GFuel

@gamingonlinux
Amazon and cloud gaming. Two of my least favourite things, together at last.

Video Game Lunatic

@gamingonlinux I am mystified that this exists after Google Stadia folded and issued refunds in an effort to erase it's existence from memory.

I won't be taking a look at the Nreal glasses for use with Steam Deck (was going to test them on desktop too).

Their partners reached out to me about paid rates (a paid review). I said I don't do paid reviews, but would review it based on my thoughts.

They didn't reply again.

@gamingonlinux You have your review right there. If they only trusted your opinion under contract, well...

While I like the products JSAUX make, because everything they've sent me has worked well, they're repeating the same mistakes they made with me.

After I pointed out problems, they cut me off, now they're doing the same to Taki but worse. I've emailed them for a chat.

I'm hoping we can find a resolution on this, so that JSAUX can do better, but it's not a good look again.

"Jsaux decided to back out of their agreement to provide free unit codes for the back plate giveaway. I assume this is in retaliation for indirectly showing people that they were using one of my videos as an ad to sell their other products on YouTube.

As I said in the video, I will still do the giveaway myself and cover the shipping costs. I will start contacting people that participated this Friday for one of these plates. It probably goes without saying, but I will not be making any videos on anything this company makes going forward."

@gamingonlinux I wouldn't trust them, or any company based in PRC.

Spoke to JSAUX, this was apparently a misunderstanding from one of their team and they told me they are still doing it. Waiting to see what Taki says next.

@gamingonlinux they're like teenagers, it's hilarious

deKay

@gamingonlinux and Nintendo are just going to let them do that? With a near identical pitch and style? When Advance Wars is out in a month?

Miguel Torrellas

@gamingonlinux that's the artsyle Nintendo should have used for the new AW, don't like the new one

@gamingonlinux: Will need to see how good the RHEL books are in helping me get my RHCSA again after I let my RHCE lapse.

It has been annoying me so much seeing so many spam sites on Google, when searching for "Steam Deck" to see anything I might have missed...

So I made a Ublock Origin list to remove them from results.

@gamingonlinux nice, thanks. If you’re not being paid by Valve, you really should be. Just bought a SD mainly because of what you’re writing about it. You should build something like a central SD resource website (apart from GoL). But who had the time, right? 😁

Fastolph

@gamingonlinux I'm surprised you're still using Google to be quite honest.

DELETED

@gamingonlinux dont forget some reddit threads that are nothing but news and people who hate steam deck.

throAU

@gamingonlinux fair call to be honest. Linux is a small market and if it can be covered by proton until the market is established it will help devs like this who can’t afford the development and debugging hit. Sure native would be better but the dev expense likely doesn’t justify the sales.

Julian Murgia

@gamingonlinux As someone rightfully (in my opinion) posted in GoL comments: the game is made with Unity and many titles using it have better performances with Proton than a native build. I am also quite disappointed, yet I feel fortunate Proton is a thing now. But this is not a good signal for Linux gaming in general.

Yes it is and it’s so very sad to see some of the bigger lot now also just chasing Google for clicks.

Even just searching Steam Deck on Google constantly brings up spam blogs.

I will continue doing this as long as people want it 🫡

SEO is hollowing out games media, it's really awful to see.

@gamingonlinux #Kagi lets you do that, you can either downrank individual sites or block them entirely. I just wish it was cheaper.

Evil Roda

@gamingonlinux It's not just SEO, it's fucking everywhere. Before I started purging them, my Facebook feed was absolutely clogged with Ranker links. I still see them every once in a while! How many Facebook pages does Ranker even own?!

Please don't tag me in these weird trending account, or popular account etc things. I'll just mute you, it's just notification spam when people start replying with everyone tagged.

Please no.
