@gamingonlinux Easy to dunk on snaps, but scammers tend to go with what is popular. Linux desktops have generally gotten away without having to worry about this sort of thing, but maybe Ubuntu in particular has hit critical mass. :blobsweats: But seriously, snaps should go away. 😋 @gamingonlinux This is actually pretty bad for snaps. The whole point of a centralized app publisher is to prevent issues like this. @gamingonlinux it's just as "locked" to the valve eco system as Windows is to the Microsoft store. There are lots of ways to play games from other stores on the Steam Deck. @gamingonlinux .. the bigger question is: will #Playtron contribute back to the #Linux / #FOSS community that it is built on? Likely given who they’ve hired, but we don’t know. Valve is making big money, but no question that they contribute back (and obviously Playtron won’t build their own Proton from scratch). As an update to this: One of the videos Playtron supplied to The Verge, showcasing it on mobile, wasn't even their own and was taken uncredited from another person on YouTube, who hit them with a copyright claim and had it taken down. Not a good look. @gamingonlinux The new changes are great, however they introduced a new term that completely screws it for me is that no longer can you have cross-region accounts in the same family. Which cuts me off from my family. Which worked before just fine. I realise this is to prevent cross-region purchasing shenanigans, which Valve has constantly had so many bad-eggs ruin things with, but it really does make my LDR that much harder. Not cool :( Apex Legends article updated with statement from Easy Anti-Cheat: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/03/apex-legends-global-series-postponed-due-to-mid-match-hacks/ @gamingonlinux wait a second, is this an rce to the client? @gamingonlinux Last time I checked Lemmy was infested with tankies, so I think I'll pass @gamingonlinux Using Lemmy since the reddit blackout, quite a nice place. When the blackout began, it wasn't quite ready: the servers couldn't handle the load (not only because of the hardware, but also because of Lemmy itself), moderation tools wasn't good. But the situation improved a lot since then.
