Plans for the future releases are: * Page archival Let's see what happens. @ephemeral its the right thing to do π if youre tickled by a software solution, i was vibing with https://links.compost.party/ lately which is running the relatively simple to set up @betula by @bouncepaw π A poll for the betulists. I suppose most public instances run on cheap VPS:es. How much RAM do they have? Do you compile Betula yourself there? Do you use pre-built binaries? Where do you get them? @betula Running on a nuc. I actually use Docker, to run it through Portainer. I build it as part of the image-building process. itβs then exposed via tailscale funnel. Great fun A hotfix was released for Betula 1.3. The bug was that you could not really type the slash character because it focused the cursor on the search bar. You should upgrade. Introducing Betula 1.3 Betula is a federated self-hosted single-user bookmarking software. Organize your collection with tags. Write descriptions and quotes. Follow each other in #Fediverse. π Now you can follow other Betula instances! Works well, you can even repost them. Also: dark theme, Random bookmarks, session manager, and more Release notes: https://betula.mycorrhiza.wiki/v1.3.1.html Happy bookmarking! I was told that there is a vast community of Fediverse users in Matrix. Makes sense. Now, there is a new Matrix space dedicated to Betula: https://matrix.to/#/#betula-space:matrix.org It has two rooms currently: general discussion and user instance directory. Feel free to join! There is also a #betula channel on libera.chat but it doesn't seem to be used at all. Introducing Betula 1.2 Betula is a federated self-hosted single-user bookmarking software. Organize your collection with tags. Write descriptions and quotes. #IndieWeb microformats and #Fediverse are supported. This release brings #ActivityPub-backed following. Follow Betula from Mastodon and whatnot and receive all new bookmarks. A new design for bookmarks was also made. Release notes: https://betula.mycorrhiza.wiki/v1.2.0.html Happy bookmarking!

Oh hey, in the next release of Betula, people will be able to follow Betulæ from e.g. Mastodon. For live experimentation, Bouncepaw encourages you to follow his Betula instance: @bouncepaw Bugs are expected. @betula @bouncepaw FWIW I'm not currently able to follow the Betula instance from #Postmarks, but that looks like another area we can collaborate to figure out! Exciting times. A (big) feature brewing is following other people. Now, following between Betulæ works fine! No bookmarks are being sent though for now. The most you can do is being mutuals, which is fun too, of course. Following people from other platforms works sometimes too. Other than Betula, complete Postmarks and Inks federation compatibility is planned. As of now, Betula profile lookup in Mastodon doesn't work yet :-( Here's a sneak peak at the coming Betula update. The bookmark cards are being redesigned to allow for more features and easier use. 1. A green stripe is added, where things are packed tightly. 2. The post number is shown in the stripe, and it's now the link to the post page. 3. Both links in the bookmark (the title and URL) now lead to the saved URL, making Betula similar to other projects in this regard. 1/2 4. The funny globes and locks are gone. They might make a comeback later?? 5. Posts are grouped under date headings. Consequently, the timestamps were removed. An analysis of Betula codebase with Git of Theseus. Nothing exceptional, code usually remains once added, no big refactorings were attempted. Although there is some fluctuation in the middle of this year. Introducing Betula 1.1 Betula is a self-hosted single-user bookmarking software. Organize your collection with tags. Write descriptions and quotes. #IndieWeb microformats are produced. Along with bug fixes and improvements, #ActivityPub-backed reposts were implemented. They are still experimental and do not work with the rest of the Fediverse, but interbetulic reposts do work. Release notes: https://betula.mycorrhiza.wiki/v1.1.0.html Happy bookmarking! @betula Want to take a look? My instance is available over at https://links.bouncepaw.com (800+ bookmarks) Betula is available in Arch Linux #AUR. Shoutout to Lobo Torres for maintaining the package. The package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/betula Do you know of any other packages in other repositories? First ever interbetulic ActivityPub communication ended up with a ridiculous bug. Stay tuned. Okay, the first ever repost was actually made. See this bookmark: https://links.flancia.org/2 See this repost: https://links.bouncepaw.com/629 And the original post known about the repost: https://links.flancia.org/reposts-of/2 And it's using ActivityPub! CC @flancian Updated the website. Now, the installation guide is more helpful for server administration novices and addresses the v1.0.0 installation issue: https://betula.mycorrhiza.wiki/installation.html There is also a new guide for setting up HTTPS with #nginx: https://betula.mycorrhiza.wiki/https-domain.html A guide for #Caddy will be written soon. Development news! Reposts! You will be able to repost from other Betulae and compatible websites in 1.1. You can repost posts hosted by any version of Betula. However, post descriptions only from Betula 1.1+ will be fetched. Else, no description. What websites other than Betula are compatible? Those that implement the needed microformats. For example, Quill implements it, so you can repost Aaron Parecki's bookmarks: https://aaronparecki.com/bookmarks No more copy-pasting from friends! Introducing Betula v1.0.0! Betula is a self-hosted single-user bookmarking software. Organize your collection with tags. Write descriptions and quotes. #IndieWeb microformats are produced. Among changes: 1. Bookmarklet 2. Searching 3. Built-in documentation 4. Custom CSS Full notes: https://betula.mycorrhiza.wiki/v1.0.0.html If you were delaying Betula installation, now is the perfect time! I got reports on failed installations with the installation method offered in the documentation. Install Betula the following way instead: git clone https://git.sr.ht/~bouncepaw/betula cd betula git checkout v1.0.0 CGO_ENABLED=1 go build -o betula ./cmd/betula You would need Git, C and Go compilers for building the program. I will update the documentation accordingly later. If you couldn't install Betula before, try now. Thanks for letting me know! Trying out labels in our ticket tracker. We never had them before. And yeah, Betula is approaching 1.0. This a good place to request features and report bugs: https://todo.sr.ht/~bouncepaw/betula 12
