The thixomolded magnesium alloy Bottom Cover is the main structural part of the Framework Laptop 16, and lets us achieve <18mm thickness in a robust, rigid form factor: frame.work/blog/framework-lapt

Sliding in a Graphics Module with a discrete GPU, the back section of the laptop goes to <21mm, enabling much higher thermal capacity.

Simon Carpentier

@frameworkcomputer my hype for the upcomming Framework Laptop 16 cannot be contained 🤩

AGTMADCAT :verified:

@frameworkcomputer I'm sorry did you say discrete GPU? I may need to standardize on these for work... Do y'all have a company purchasing program?

Andres Jalinton

@frameworkcomputer
I like the finish of the magnesium alloy and how the frame looks, I would also like blind people to read about what is in the picture, since "framework 16 bottom cover" doesn't do it any justice.

@frameworkcomputer Love that right-angle connector on the AC adapter but it really is kinda inconvenient sometimes. 😛

@frameworkcomputer I am not happy… because I am not there, nor do I have one… YET!

Excellent review of upgrading a 12th Gen Framework Laptop to the full set of new 13th Gen modules by HughJeffreys

"With their first device, they've really outdone other brands that have been in the industry for decades. It's amazing what can be achieved when you put customers first."

A few weeks ago, linusgsebastian and the LinusTech team toured the Framework Laptop factory in Taiwan, including a peek at some pre-production Framework Laptop 16 modules being made. They released their video on it today! youtu.be/7nXVJBGowmY

Special thanks to our amazing manufacturing partner Compal for letting this happen, and agreeing on extremely short notice! Almost no other manufacturer would allow this level of transparency.

@frameworkcomputer I like the part that you have to disassemble the whole machine for DIY edition :)
But why DIY edition is still cheaper than assembled one?

@frameworkcomputer If you guys really want to be all about transparency, you should offer Atomic Purple as a casing option :P

We're livestreaming a battery life comparison of 12th Gen and 13th Gen Framework Laptops tomorrow (guess which one lasts longer!), starting at 6am Pacific:

Watching laptops slowly drain over the course of a day would normally be as exciting as watching paint dry, but we're going to make it fun with Q&As with members of the Framework team. You can submit questions ahead of time here:

@frameworkcomputer cool but are they running windows or Linux for this test?

Our latest Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive is on the custom ultra-efficient, high-density 180W USB-C Power Adapter we developed: frame.work/blog/framework-lapt

We might unintentionally end up being the first company to ship a >140W USB-PD 3.1 power adapter?

@frameworkcomputer Colloquially known as "Lil power chonk"

@frameworkcomputer Very cool. I think this is one of those areas where its importance is vastly understated.
For now this is only a charger for a laptop, but nowadays there are a number of mini PCs which can be powered via USB-C. Of all th hadware components I've had fail over the years, the most common were hard drives and power supplies. So this is a big step in the right direction of longer lived hardware.
Thanks for lpushing things forward!

Mia Luna Tearmoon

@frameworkcomputer This somewhat concerns me because if the laptop expects 180 W, what do I do if I forgot my power adaptor at home and am travelling long distance?

We launched this quietly, but we now sell returned and refurbished memory and storage (securely erased) for ~50% off with 11th Gen and 12th Gen configurations. We're reducing waste at the same time as reducing the cost of entry to the Framework Laptop ecosystem.

Do you think you'll ever update the configurator to give the option of buying the renewed parts instead of new when buying the machine?

@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org This feels both wrong and completely genius at the same time. It feels like an essential part of the framework laptop has been hacked out, but it works just like an external adapter. :blobcatsweat:
