#TIL that Amazon's "Just Walk Out" stores were a hoax. The "AI" in the system was actually a horde of cheap workers acting as remote cashiers.

@garritfra yes. And the same is true for "self driving taxis". People in India remote-controlling on average 5 taxis to get them out of pickles. Without a US drivers license, obviously.

Ricard Torres

@garritfra They fooled me πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Jan-Lukas Else

@garritfra Oh, TIL. I shopped at one in London and was a bit amazed about how well it was working.

#CasioCult, does anyone own a G-Shock DW-H5600 and have opinions about it? I'm currently quite happy with the features my Fossil HR Hybrid smartwatch provides, but I absolutely love the looks of G-Shock squares. I think I'd miss those features if I got a GW-M5610. πŸ€”

How does the battery hold up? Is the accuracy of the sensors really *that* bad? Does the exterior case fall off when you smash it too hard? There's not much information out there...

Rare image of a @kev in their natural habitat. Wales, circa 2023. :sadkev:

@garritfra πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I would absolutely do this if I could!

Fun fact: #Vite (Next Generation Frontend Toolingℒ️) releases one or more breaking changes every 271,5 days on average.

Ayush

@garritfra interestingly since I couldn't remember the last breaking change I thought I was hallucinating in a recent conversation; turns out the current release is just that old and the previous that much older haha

Garrit πŸ‘Ÿ

Compare that to #Webpack, which has the same number of major releases, and we're looking at 606,25 days for a new release on average.

Garrit πŸ‘Ÿ

Hey #Scrum peeps, how long is your average daily meeting?

@garritfra It's fast and most of the time less than 15 minutes. In my last job it was often more than one hour. πŸ˜…

Encountered a fun little bug at work that I thought is worth sharing.

Beware of Base64 encoded strings:

My analytics just went wild. This apparently made it to the top of Hacker News. πŸ‘€

Balu

@garritfra I mean, it's right there:

```
$ base64 --help
Usage: base64 [OPTION]... [FILE]
[...]
-w, --wrap=COLS wrap encoded lines after COLS character (default 76).
Use 0 to disable line wrapping
[...]
```

Unless you are on MacOS, then base64 doesn't have a default line wrapping. =)

We got a 100 W #solar panel and battery pack for our summer camping trips. Right now it's mildly sunny, I'm charging my phone with 20 W and there's 15 W left to charge up the battery. Neat! 🌱🌞

Garrit πŸ‘Ÿ

The sun just came out. I'm now charging my Powerbank, PS4 controller and my phone while having 20 W left for the battery. Free energy! 🀩

Today, my #blog turns five years old! πŸ₯³

To celebrate this special occasion, I prepared something very dear to my heart. :blobcatrainbow:

Adam

@garritfra Congratulations on this milestone! πŸŽ‚πŸŽˆπŸ₯³

Roel

@garritfra ooh this was super useful, I was just creating a monster bash script to replace URLs in markdown, but we let pandoc do that too!

Adam

@garritfra Very nice, I'll add this to my reference notes πŸ˜„.

There's some spring cleaning to be done at 512kb.club. If anyone wants to jump in, we'd really appreciate it!

Tom

@garritfra I'll probably get around to doing a PR tomorrow, might have a bit of time in the afternoon :)

Konstantin Tutsch

@garritfra I agree. In my opinion, the best implementation and also compromise between trees and tags is github.com/ajeetdsouza/zoxide

And yes, it's technically not tags.

Radagon and Elden Beast are taking the rest of me. They're absolutely brutal bosses. I've spent the last 5 days glued to the TV leveling up, refining my build, researching strategies and practicing their ridiculous movesets. Really looking forward to the day I finally beat these guys.

Bradley Taunt

@garritfra My first playthrough I went β€œonline” and summoned two other real players for those bosses.

Just couldn’t handle smashing my head against a wall for so long lol

Tom

@garritfra it took me 4 or 5 attempts.

Elden Blob is a pain, but I eventually got it done with my mimic using blasphemous blade for survivability and myself having switched to physical dmg when it appeared (1st boss needed fire afair).

You've got to rush the EB, don't let it get away, otherwise it'll nuke you.

Garrit πŸ‘Ÿ

I DID IT! The Age of Stars is upon us.

What an incredible game. Can't wait for Shadow of the Erdtree! :ablobcatbongo:

I uploaded my fight, in case anyone is interested:

I'm no expert in #UI and #UX #design, but here's something that bothers me about Slack.

Why are there two menu bars for semingly related items? What makes unread messages ("Ungelesenes") and threads so special that it couldn't fit in the left sidebar (or vice verca), alongside the messages I saved for later?

More often than not I was looking for a menu item and had to look again in the other menu to find it.

This used to be better in the previous version of slack.

Garrit πŸ‘Ÿ

Finally caught up with my month-long backlog of unread articles. Now it's time to go through my read later list. #RSS for the win!

Garrit πŸ‘Ÿ

I'm out here bussing rural Vietnam with a flawless internet connection. Your turn, Germany.

Philipp

@garritfra Can you steal some fiber optic cables from there for me please? 😒 πŸ˜…

If you're starting to get muscle memory for tapping on an app you shouldn't use too often, just swap it with the app next to it. Your brain will thank you.
