Yes, I'm sure the people to listen to are the most implacable opponents of decarbonizing energy supplies, who have spent immense lobbying efforts over the years to literally make the most realistic alternative (for many purposes) to fossil fuels illegal in New Zealand and Australia. Thanks Ika Makimaki! My son and I have put in submissions opposing the Crown Minerals Amendment Bill. Good comments there about the spill and how we're not preparing to handle the response. The Army was called up to mop up the oil after MV Rena sprung a leak. I wish I could go back and amend my submission to start with: “On the week when the United Kingdom stopped their last coal-fired power plant and North Carolina, US was submerged by torrential rains, you slid out the world’s tiniest submission window about increasing oil and gas exploration? U wot, m8?” Hello fediverse. Quick check in. Going into year 5 of the age of SARS-CoV-2, to your knowledge you have been infected: Please boost for larger sample size. Anonymous poll

@pezmico I was a zero, but this last Xmas, travel from Michigan to Pennsylvania, perhaps a crowded restaurant, or a travel plaza in Ohio, gave me the virus. Vaxed to the max, though. Was like a bad cold, but it took two weeks to test clear. @pezmico I agree. The satisfaction and moral superiority I feel when riding past trafic makes my day every time. Quick reminder that at least a decent chunk of the forests *still burning* in Canada were part of the "offsets" countries and companies pay for as credits in Carbon Trading schemes meant for them to keep polluting guilt-free. The "offsets" are now in the atmosphere heating the planet. As well as the original emissions. Good stuff. /s That's part of why Emissions Trading Schemes are little more than fancy accounting and should never be accepted as Climate Action.

THANK YOU. Offsets are little more than “I’d gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today” climate change/carbon reduction philosophy.

@pezmico @pezmico Went to a donut shop in Japan today. They had a CO2 monitor on the counter and a UV light on, plus circulating air through the ventilation system. Also all the staff and most of the customers were masked. 😷 It's really not that hard and if a donut shop can do it we can certainly do it at least in schools and hospitals. This is more what I'd think "Live with the virus" looks like. What we're doing feels more like "Pretend there is no virus". Edit: UV light is a bug zapper.

@pezmico @pezmico @donmelton the deaths are nearing the flu which has been with us since…1918. COVID isn’t going away. There’s nothing stopping you from wearing a mask if you’re concerned but it’s a bit silly to expect permanent mask requirements.

@pezmico @pezmico I don't think that's fair. I think better approach is: Don't want to have your private jet tracked? Don't be a jerk. |
