NYT:

"If you drive a car made by General Motors and it has an internet connection, your car’s movements and exact location are being collected and shared anonymously with a data broker. This practice, disclosed in a letter sent by two Democratic senators to the FTC on Friday, is yet another way in which automakers are tracking drivers, often without their knowledge."

@GottaLaff Ford does the exact same thing. Ford keeps track of salespeople at dealerships, and they're required to set up the system with the customer's information, usually while the customer is in finance. Salespeople are required to get the car programmed one way or another, even if the car has already left the dealership

@GottaLaff This is why I sold my Honda Motorscooter. It had one of those Y Connect things and would drain the battery at night. Plus letting Honda (or whoever) track my movements.

@GottaLaff I remember when GM first introduced On*Star in their cars. "So anyone with access to their computer systems can locate my car, see what condition it's in, and remotely unlock the doors? That doesn't seem like a good idea..." The dealership did not understand my concern at all.

@GottaLaff oh boy… this makes me nervous. I’m blue no matter who… but I desperately hope 3 months is enough time to solidify the enthusiasm around our new candidate 😬

@GottaLaff I am terrified that this will devolve into chaos. And I feel terrible for Biden, who has done a spectacular job.

Omg.

#RIP Retired Maj. Gen. William Anders, the former Apollo 8 astronaut who took the iconic “Earthrise” photo showing the planet as a shadowed blue marble from space in 1968, was killed Friday when the plane he was piloting alone plummeted into the waters off the San Juan Islands in Washington state. He was 90

@GottaLaff That's just not fair. Bad Universe. No Cookie.

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

Don't wonder what will happen if #Russia collapses. It already did! Years ago. It's not a state, it's a mafia front with factions fighting each other for money, resources, and power.

Whatever is happening now, it was already clear Putin wasn't able to control every faction or to keep the infighting quiet or at least non-violent the way he mostly could before.

@GottaLaff This is basically the civil war that Gorbachev forestalled by allowing the peaceful breakup of the USSR. Amazing and sad that Russians — who once had such a bright future — have thrown it all away on this.

In case Putin goes for an extended holiday trip to Beijing, will he continue to pay US politicians, or will Xi offer some help?

Why Modi is pivoting to USA. His intelligence might have already indicated Russia implosion.
