It has been days since we last saw anyone that isn't a bird or a whale, the northern BC coast is totally empty as far as we can tell. Mountains are really beautiful when humans leave them alone.

@neauoire

The main drawback of lonely places is there are too many people looking for them.

Devil Lu Linvega

Cellphone towers! I haven't seen those in a while.

@neauoire Welcome back to the land of connectivity!

🍂Evan Balster🍂

@neauoire Back in my day we'd use those to make specific people anxious from hundreds of miles away. This was before knowledge of geas became widespread...

We've reached that place with the fog that never goes away, feeling undead.

Devil Lu Linvega

Do you ever just feel... like how the Revenant soundtrack sounds?

Levi Beach

@neauoire suuuuch a good soundtrack! Particularly love a lot of stuff by alva noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto

If you're thinking of going to Handmade Seattle this year, hold off buying your tickets for a bit, I'm going to do a group buy for the instance since there's a bunch of us going, so we can get a discount.

@neauoire 🙋‍♂️ 🙋‍♂️ count me in!

cathos

@neauoire I'm planning to go as well - at least to meetups, but the conference too if I have time.

Our sailing trajectory thus far.

I update our route whenever we find internet (like today, yay!).

@rek what is your final destination in Alaska ?

R E K

Leg 3 of our trip in progress :).

We are currently in Prince Rupert(54°18′46″N, 130°19′31″W), to do laundry, re-stock on a few things, before we head off into SE Alaska.

gabrielbezerra

@rek Thank you for sharing your trip and keeping it up to date. What do you use to plot these charts? Is it also built with uxn?

Devil Lu Linvega

Beautiful Fury Cove (51°29.291'N, 127°45.508'W, where we were a few days ago).

We're now in Lizzie Cove (52° 3.088'N, 128°5.083'W)

@rek jeez, i was hoping to intercept you guys, what's your flight plan. Where will you be the beginning of august!?

To date, the shortest program to spin a repl in modal is 14 bytes long:

<>.?~(?~ ..)..

This one rewrite rule is enough to expect an input(?~), and rewrite it into a listener after appending the register to the input string.

Is this the shortest repl code?

@neauoire

This question either makes sense to you or it doesn't.

Well played!

@neauoire This is a bit tricky, since we're not counting the VM's complexity. It seems like the actual printing is also done by the underlying interpreter??
For a fair comparison to something like Stone Knife Forth, it should run on "bare" metal. (I wouldn't mind the boot ROM also being counted, but maybe that's overkill.)

The Race2Alaska happens on June 9th, and goes all the way to Ketchikan, and so I guess most of the boats will be making their way there around the following week, I think if we're slow enough, we might be able to catch up with the racers at the finishing line.

I've been devouring Michael Greger's How Not to Age, it's really nice.

We found a tiny bit of internet(unstable) while in a really beautiful place, Codville Lagoon (52 °3.706'N 127° 50.262'W).

We traveled 40 NM by sail from Fury Cove, in the rain, but at least with wind from the stern. It was our most relaxing sail yet!

R E K

Some humpback whales were jumping in the little bay right near the narrow entrance channel. Devine saw one jump right out of the water!

rezmason

@rek A degree of longitude at your latitude is 6% shorter than where you began. Watch your step when you walk east or west!

The stove that we designed last winter is working wonderfully well underway, I'm looking at the coffee pot right now and it's sitting at a sharp angle without threatening to fall off.

We've left Vancouver Island behind this morning, we untied the lines at 5am alongside our friends on SV Moonshine, and are now sailing northwest on a flat sea with a light breeze from the west.

It's nice to be on a bit of open ocean again.

Implemented most of the Paradise interactive fiction engine in string rewriting rules, all actions are working, except for the automation commands. This means that the whole pocket universe can be reduced to a single operation: replace a length of text with another.

And, due to the homoiconic nature of the host language, I'll be able to modify the behavior of the world from within.

@neauoire I’m actually really excited to eventually return to this 😭

Last day in Port McNeill, early morning departure tomorrow for the Broughtons. Last grocery run for the next couple of weeks.

A map I drew to document our northbound transit through the Yuculta and Dent Rapids(B.C, Canada), where it's necessary to ride some back currents to make forward progress if the goal is to pass the two rapids in one go.

@rek that’s awesome. Someone should publish a Book of Back Eddies. I know them in Active Pass pretty well but not elsewhere.

A Ghostly Vision Of James Chip

@rek what should we call this place?

Well, its a bay and its big, so big bay?

Yes.
