Got the pleasure of designing the j-card for the latest release of @lyndsiealguire alongside some pixel art used for an interactive story accompanying the album (and printed on the tape itself). The cover is a painting by Naomi Nowak ~ The kind people of Sointula are quick to tell us how much of a sleepy town they live in. Meanwhile, we're here dizzied by the bustling activity of cars, scooters, dogs barking after spending months in the woods not hearing other voices than ours own. TIL, if you accidentally break VLC by trying to change one of the shortcuts(?!) VLC comes with a curses version that runs in the terminal with `nvlc`

kodiak version 1 is done! there are still some things i'd like to add later but for a #uxn solitaire game this is fairly complete. splash screen ✔️ get the ROM and source code here: https://git.phial.org/d6/kodiak Starting another massive doorstopper of a book: Pynchon's Against The Day @neauoire I really loved the 30% of that book that I read in 3 months before giving up i don’t think there is anything cooler than sailing a boat at 3am, all ur homies are slumbering below deck, youre blasting silver mt zion on a bluetooth speaker, and a dolphin spontaneously leaps out of the random spot of water you’re staring off into the distance at @lake watching the moon rise while becalmed in a fog during the night watch and a thousand kilometers from anywhere is a close second

The calm surface of the water was intermittently disturbed by their oscillating motion, and the quietness of the anchorage disturbed by the occasional burst of hot air. Accompanying a handful of anchored sailing vessels were hot air balloonists that came from far-flung places unreachable by waterways. The things you think about when you're becalmed waiting for wind. And of course, they didn't have space or weight to spare for such things as velocipedes and dinghies, they had on board stilts that they use to get across shallow rivers and reach shore without getting wet!!
[DATA EXPUNGED]
Femi just released an hour long #Orca tutorial that builds from the foundations and go into some really obscure places with the language. We're thinking of sailing to Sointula later today. In 1901, a group of Finnish settlers planned to set up a utopian socialist society known as the Kalevan Kansa, based on cooperative principles there. @neauoire very cool! very curious what it's like there today—wonder what the vibes are like since the wiki mentions folks buying up summer homes there. Spent all afternoon in the tiny Sointula museum learning about the village that originated from a utopian Finnish commune. They never had a church, and one of their maxim was that women and men would be equal, the general store was the first consumer cooperative in BC. That was all back in 1901. The irony is not lost on me that the Internet Archive went out of its way to acquire the physical versions of millions of books and loan them out carefully and in a limited way, and is facing a near-extinction-level event over it, while for-profit and VC-backed companies are just stealing people’s content and making up excuses to validate the bad behavior.

@ernie the stranglehold that publishers have on our entire culture is obscene. We have to find ways to support authors that don't further empower these ghouls. Meanwhile, z library doesn't bother paying publishers anything, and has books and scientific articles freely available to all, and has yet to be taken down. TOR URL: Accidentally bought a massive bag of unroasted peanuts, fortunately, those turn out real nice in the solar oven. So, @d6 made something neat. A #uxntal manual page, that contains the full opcode reference with all that's needed to program with it. It saves opening the browser to check the docs, it installs with uxn11. usage: man uxntal https://git.sr.ht/~rabbits/uxn11/commit/5a41189405de0865daa087aceced43b04258c1d6 @neauoirelce It's amazing to me that Blutengel still releases music, and it's really just as good as when you were 18 putting on your battle boots, studded choker, eye liner and getting ready to head to the crappy goth club with sticky floors where the dj is still only ever playing VNV Nation, and, and-

@neauoire, here in Brazil, we had a lot of Aggrotech playing. Brazilian skinheads (!) in the middle of the club. I’m not sure how I survived. VNV Nation was lounge music for after 4 am :) Good memories of Blutengel, Hocico, and Suicide Commando. @cancel whenever I get to use the trick of making enums to define C89 constants, I think about you and how much of a neat trick it is <3 Bikes are cool and all, but I think it's time we normalize stilts as a mean of getting around. @computersandblues Incan go to Berlin but I’d be very interested to get in touch with someone knowledgeable about permacomputing who also speaks French. Any contact to recommend? For every 10 people who contact us with solutions for us to try but that that they haven't tested to problems they don't understand, there's one person who's spot on and makes welcoming these conversations totally worth it. @neauoire but have you considered 50 more solar panels? they'd only weigh like 20 thousand pounds and triple your windage, that's fine, right? ooh what if you bought a brand new macbook. definitely brand new macbooks, then you don't need to think about memory usage anymore. THINK OF ALL THE SLACKS YOU COULD RUN. what's a repairability? accessibility includes supporting old hardware, nobody has the same economical status as you to afford a new machine

@ritualdust love this! The pixel art on the cassette is especially great.
