Random account I picked as an example for this post. On Twitter you've probably seen people reply with hashtags like this. Don't bring this over to Mastodon. On Twitter hashtags don't matter very much anymore, but on Mastodon they're a core part of discoverability. People on Mastodon can follow hashtags so if you're filling up their home feed with trash you're probably going to get blocked, and your admin might get reports about you and ask you not to spam hashtags.

@nathan honestly if the whole FBPE crew just go down with the Twitter ship I won’t be very sad about it @nathan 💯 also the people who do weekly versions of the same hashtag but just change the number on the end, like # ToriesOut47 can do one as well Messing around with ChatGPT and I entered "Explain what Mastodon is in the style of Soviet propaganda". "Apple, Facebook and Discord reportedly gave user data to hackers posing as law enforcement" If you're curious about how we handle law enforcement requests on this instance, it goes: a) fuck off @Gargron I have a single broken emoji on my instance: :blobcat: It's on my local list of emojis in the admin section and it's enabled. I tried disabling it and enabling it again. I deleted it and added it again. I cleared the Redis cache. It shows in the emoji picker, but when posted it doesn't render, it only shows the short code. Running code from main (due to minemagic) at commit bf74a7e06d. Any idea why this might be happening? @Gargron Is it possible as an admin to disable email notifications globally? I have a 100/day limit with SendGrid and one user getting a lot of interactions can wipe that out, making it impossible for users to reset their passwords, etc. Thanks. @nathan No, but that would be a good option. Most notifications are off by default though. @Gargron Does the `cache/media_attachments` directory continue to grow forever or does it get pruned? It's currently 18GB so I'm wondering what that'll look like in the future if left alone. Thanks! @nathan There's no auto-remove due to lack of consensus among contributors but you can use `tootctl media remove` (see --help for details) to keep it in check |
@nathan For anyone who's interested: I've set up a new queer-focused instance to give those who are on mastodon.lol a place to migrate. It's invite-only for now but I may open it up in the near future... in the meantime, you can use this link if you want to join: https://gaygeek.social/invite/Q9M7Dh4J
