We host one of the largest Matrix servers in the open federation. But we don't want to become the Gmail of Matrix. So why do we keep registrations open? And what are we doing to stay true to our mission?

The matrix.org homeserver will go down for maintenance today Monday 12 at 10:00 UTC for up to 30 minutes.

We will tweak the homeserver database configuration to make better use of the hardware it runs on.

We'll do our best to answer your questions, address concerns, and find a path forward together.

MAINTENANCE: We will be taking down the http://matrix.org homeserver in 10 minutes (09:30 UTC) to perform a database upgrade.

The downtime could be up to an hour, but probably much less.

Other servers will, of course, be unaffected.
