@matrix congratulations!

> what might Matrix 3.0 bring? (…) Could it be switching to #MLS (or Decentralised MLS) for encryption?

That would help absolutely amazing.

@matrix@mastodon.matrix.org I'm using SSS on Element X and I really like it, but is it really "ready to use" if no desktop or web clients support it?

feld
@matrix but how many new side channels did you create / knowingly leave in place?

The sheer size of that crowd! The community is excited to see what authentication is going to look like in Matrix in the very near future

@matrix Please make it easier so my students don't hate it!

We host one of the largest Matrix servers in the open federation. But we don't want to become the Gmail of Matrix. So why do we keep registrations open? And what are we doing to stay true to our mission?

Learn more about our thinking and plans regarding the Matrix.org homeserver in the latest blog post in our roadmap series: matrix.org/blog/2024/03/why-ma

The Matrix.org Foundation

The matrix.org homeserver will go down for maintenance today Monday 12 at 10:00 UTC for up to 30 minutes.

We will tweak the homeserver database configuration to make better use of the hardware it runs on.

Element informed the Foundation that it will be forking Synapse and Dendrite: matrix.org/blog/2023/11/06/fut

We'll do our best to answer your questions, address concerns, and find a path forward together.

@matrix Can someone ELI5 what this means for Matrix?

MAINTENANCE: We will be taking down the matrix.org homeserver in 10 minutes (09:30 UTC) to perform a database upgrade.

The downtime could be up to an hour, but probably much less.

Other servers will, of course, be unaffected.

Faster room joins, early threads support in Nheko, a new device manager in Element Web nightly, and the possibility to create build worlds for third room in Unity... that, and much more happened This Week in Matrix!

@matrix being able to pin messages in rooms would be nice too!

@matrix
I love this part:

"we've had the *fastest ever NeoChat sprint* at roughly 320km/h in a train through france and we will have a similar one tomorrow "

@matrix With such urgent patch update calls, please make sure to mention the version numbers of the releases in which the vulnerability has been fixed. At least for the apps that you are responsible for, or are aware of.

I did not find any version numbers anywhere in your communication, not even in the very extensive news post. Without these version numbers it's impossible to check whether a package upgrade on a certain distro has patched the issue or not. Distros could be behind.

Full details of today's security release.

If you are using Element or an application that shares the same SDKs (Beeper, Cinny, SchildiChat, Circuli, Synod.im) then please upgrade now.

We have no evidence of exploitation in the wild.

We've just released Dendrite 0.9.8 to fix a security vulnerability. If you run a Dendrite installation, upgrading is highly recommended! πŸ” github.com/matrix-org/dendrite

A Matrix @onbeeper@twitter.com beeper (yes), a new UI for Beeper Desktop and for Element iOS, and a tutorial on how to create your first Matrix bot in javascript? That, and much more happened this week in Matrix!

A physical Matrix-based beeper (by Beeper, the company!). It sports a blackberry keyboard and an e-ink screen

@matrix How can I learn more about this Beeper beeper? I've been eyeing similar parts to basically build that same thing 🀯

THREAD: It’s tempting to view Facebook’s rebranding as nothing more than a cynical attempt by the company to distance itself from endless scandals and the real-world harm caused by its surveillance capitalist business model.

But it’s actually much more sinister than that.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Users of Element Desktop/Web/Android, FluffyChat & Nheko should upgrade immediately to address a critical encryption vulnerability.

We are not aware of this being exploited in the wild yet, but as the bug is now disclosed please upgrade now. matrix.org/blog/2021/09/13/vul
