Phone number privacy and usernames are now rolling out to everyone using Signal version 7.0! Update your app to take advantage of these new features 🎇 We are touched by and grateful for every donation, including the occasional envelope of cash. Signal is a nonprofit. But what does this mean in practice? Today we do something most tech co’s avoid: talk money. What does it cost for Signal to play in a lane dominated by billion $ corporations, while rejecting the surveillance business model?

@signalapp Also remember that as with all US non-profits, Signal's tax filings are public. So you can see another (if less up to date) breakdown of their expenditures at https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/824506840/202212729349301631/full :) @signalapp great write-up. Love the transparency. Donated and would love more friends to move from WhatsApp but they don't because of network effects Our quantum-resistant protocol upgrade, PQXDH, is now “the first machine-checked post-quantum security proof of a real-world cryptographic protocol.” Thanks to the researchers who did this important formal verification! Read more from them here👇 For added security, turn on Screen Lock by going to Settings > Privacy. When Screen Lock is enabled, you’ll be required to open Signal in the same way you unlock your phone–by entering your PIN, passphrase, Touch ID, or Face ID. You can choose the length of time for the timeout from instant to 1 hour.

@signalapp it's true they do be rolling out!
@signalapp
The best way to keep a phone number private is to not be forced to use it in the first place.
