@signalapp And sandboxing and store relase for desktop when ?
Because now a simple script and we extract everything from it.

@signalapp nice feature!

Are you working an polls within group-chats? This feature will be a game changer. "Who is coming to the pub?" is easy with emojis. But "Which is your preferred Date for pub nicht?" is impossible.

@signalapp That’s actually pretty nice and well integrated. Keep up the great work.

@signalapp

individual phone numbers and user names for each folder? please?

@signalapp
Finally :D That's the main feature I have been missing from other messengers.

@signalapp Splitting 1-1 chats from groups would be great, but it's not possible to delete or hide the "all chats" tab nonetheless. A pity.

@signalapp I really don't like those design with different button size depending on the word (inconsistent) and in the upper part of the screen (inaccessible)

@signalapp Yes great! Although I can't see them in my Linux Desktop client.

@signalapp can you support sms again? everyone I know who used signal was for sms encryption. Even if it wasn't super secure or secure at all, being able to funnel sms through signal made it easier for people to pick it up. Also if people are going to snoop on texts just make one little extra annoyance to getting my texts.

antoniovr

@cosvak @signalapp you still can use that functionality by using silence (its like signal but only for sms). You can find @silence in fdroid. I understand it got split to avoid seeing together encrypted messages (to signal users through signal or sms) and plain text messages sms to non signal users. And actually if a contact has signal why to use sms and not signal instead...

Cosvak

@antoniovr @signalapp @silence those users do eventually sign up and use signal, but they mostly cared about sms encryption, so once they dropped sms, my friends just dropped signal cause they really didn't see it as an independent chat program and didn't want another messenger on their phone dividing their contacts.

Having Signal be more of a Umbrella that combined both sms and encrypted messaging was a huge boon that has been missing in my applist.

Thank you for suggestion I'll check it out

@cosvak @signalapp @silence i see now project is probably dead so good luck looking for forks! It is still possible to install (i actually have it installed but not active) but no upgrades since 5 years ago. By the way, this were the official reasons for the split: signal.org/blog/goodbye-encryp where i live sms is nearly extinguided (only used to receive confirmation sms), so the functionality was not really needed. But i remember in Denmark for ex. sms was still quite alive 2 years ago...

Cosvak

@antoniovr @signalapp @silence yeah that's unfortunate the silence project looks dead.

I hate this response, just use this way, why aren't you using this instead of sms. Unfortunately a large amount of the US uses sms and I have to deal with a lot of tech illiterate people in my job, so text is still the primary use for messaging one another cause it's only the main universal way of communicating to one another without needing to install a certain app.

antoniovr

@cosvak @signalapp @silence sorry if you misunderstood me. I mean in Spain it is not really needed for we write no sms, only receive a few and almost always not personal mail but from companies. I understand it can be different in other places as I have seen it.

Cosvak

@antoniovr @signalapp @silence all good my Spanish homie, Europeans forget that America is just a third world country with a Gucci belt

The EU and the world at large is waaaaaaay farther ahead on a lot of tech initiatives that benefits their country as a whole and not the business sector.

Sorry if I made you feel like I was directly upset at you, it's not you, just the answer I get a lot, but that's making more sense since I don't notice a lot of Americans on the platform.

@antoniovr @signalapp @silence I found the reasoning post for removing plaintext sms from @signalapp here

signal.org/blog/sms-removal-an

And it looks like it comes down to, not wanting to deal with the insecure nature of sms messaging even though it was clearly labeled in the android app, Google store compliance, and what I read as wanting to make some kind of unity between the iOS version and the android version.

And their solution for ending sms support was, go somewhere else we don't want you

@signalapp

Thank god, FINALLY!

Needs moar work but so close to decent UX after ages of having just an unsorted list of hundreds of chats.

Now if I could invite people to an entire folder that -might- be close to a discord/matrix killer for me.

@nachocarreras You can use Signal with WebSocket instead of Google services. This has been possible for almost seven years. The official app does this automatically if your phone does not have Google Play services. Some third party clients like Molly or Signal-FOSS allow you to choose to not use Google services even if your phone supports it.

@signalapp but could i make some chats makes no sound nor vibration while still appearing in my notifications in the usual position — when I spotted Folders I just checked out if the functionality was implemented on them but seems not either

@signalapp

And it's off by default as to not clutter the UI; thank you!
