I think my favorite use of emoji responses on Slack/Discord/etc is when someone just latches onto a particular word in a message and attaches its emoji, with no semantic content intended. E.g. someone'll say "Sorry, the bus is running late" and someone else will just slap a 🚌 on there to confirm that they did indeed notice and recognize the word "bus"

went to my local mall yesterday for the first time in a year and a half and i'm sorry to report that i don't think things are going well over there

they were already not doing so hot before the pandemic—they went from three stories down to two and started leasing office space on the top floor, and they lost one of their big anchor stores (sears). but now they've lost the other one (macy's) and are shedding regular stores too (even a starbucks!). at one spot there were three vacant stores in a row

@danbruno if you are not in a 3 square block radius in downtown, you would literally not know anything was happening (though I would also be afraid for the physical security of the actual xoxo site, since right wing people have seized on it as a thing to protest before)
