 Consuming "living in Japan" content again and it goes like this: "Most foreigners can't keep up with the pace of the Japanese, they are terrible workaholics, they come to work early and leave late, they don't date days off or vacations often. Often this pace is very exhausting for foreigners" and I just love the subtle implication that it's NOT exhausting for the Japanese. Remember kids, your favourite vtubers are never "graduating". They are either quitting their job or getting fired. The distinction is important. Although it is funny to watch the vtuber culture adopt the Idol culture language so willingly without spending a single moment pondering why Idol scene has chosen such specific and handcrafted euphemisms for obviously fucked up shit like being put out of your job. As some one on Reddit pointed out in the Linux/Russian discussion, Free Software, as a movement, has been political from day 0. Open Source is not a real movement or a phenomena, but a euphemism for Free Software more palatable to corporate and capital interests. You cannot participate in Open / Free software and not do a political thing. It’s impossible. "We're just doing some obviously political thing here, but no politics at all, we are not politician activists.” ZA\UM splitting into 4 separate studios is the only thing I need to instantly understand that neither of them will ever produce a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium. I'm not saying a spiritual successor is impossible, per se, I'm just saying that it won't come from any of the four studios. DE is not just Kurvitz or anyone else who worked on the game in particular, it was a combination of *all* of ZA\UM, the effort of everybody to produce a game like that. So if you take all that talent, and divide it by four, with no particular balance of talent guaranteed in between, when, I'm 80% confident to call it, none of them have what it takes to make a worthy heir to DE's fame. This whole tirade about a single anime OP made me think about modern digital photography tech quietly and slowly stripping away the original purpose from analogue photography. And I think it's a good thing! I think it allowed photography as art to develop in a much rapid pace and achieve much greater heights thanks to Photoshop and digital sensors, but in stripping the film of it's purpose it also uncovered a whole new, previously unexpected layer of the film. Because now since you're not required to use film to be artistic or productive with film, the only thing the film has left going for it is effort. The effort of measuring exposure, of counting your limited shots, of making the best work you got, in a professional or artistic field, those are limitations, but in the field of amateurs fucking around with cameras it's a blessing. A game about back-breaking manual labour and unionizing is criticized for "injecting politics".  I was told by competent businessmen that I must constantly imagine my goals so that I can materialise them.
