Today in the #nixos community: long-time white cis male contributor "[has] never observed any form of discrimination, whether on GitHub or Matrix", so issues regarding gender representation must be lies or wrong usage of statistics 🤡 .

@delroth wait, so you have the right to alter a comic if you display the name of the original artist?

@delroth Elements encryption is so strong even the users can't decrypt it :dragnloaf:

3rd most active contributor to #nixos drops from the project due to the lack of leadership from the Foundation supposedly backing the project.

Everything is fine, I'm sure the arms dealers will compensate the lost contributions. /s

I've seen 2 or 3 posts in my TL re: App Store privacy info for Threads vs. Mastodon. mastodon.social/@jsq/110653072 for example.

I feel like people greatly misunderstand the App Store privacy labels. They're not at all a ground truth you should read without careful interpretation.

- Entirely self reported
- No consistent auditing or data quality enforcement by Apple
- Very vague, both on the scope of categories and what's "collection"
- "May be collected" is a "worst case" statement.

- Only data shared directly with the app developer or contracted parties needs to be reported.
- Some categories that aren't vague are way too broad.

Mastodon reporting an empty list here is in fact very obviously wrong. When you log in to mastodon.social from the Mastodon app, you are sharing contact info (email address), identifiers, as well as usage data.

So at the very least you should conclude Threads is doing a better job of informing its users re: privacy than Mastodon gGmbH is.

@delroth @dolphin this level of discourse from "the gamers" about dolphin shipping keys being stupid (like every other project in the space minus switch emu who'd get smacked past saturn if they did so) is why i dont blame nintendo and the rest of the video game industry for hating thier users so much.
:yell: Ibly 🏳️‍⚧️ θΔ

@delroth i was also doing some digging and was told about the 3DS/DS keys, didn't realize that... basically all emulators do this too

very interesting stuff, i was indeed misinformed by the likes of MVG on this subject

You may have seen or heard the news about @dolphin / Valve / Nintendo from a few hours ago. If not, read e.g. pcgamer.com/nintendo-sends-val from the amazing @wes.

Unfortunately pretty much everyone has been getting the legal details wrong, incl. Dolphin themselves on their blog (now fixed).

Quick thread with my personal summary of the situation.

Pierre Bourdon

Disclaimer: I'm not officially involved with Dolphin anymore. I was the treasurer for the foundation backing the project for a while (technically still am for a month), but I've stepped down from the project a month or so ago. So, still plenty of context, but not much at stake for me.

The error that many have done in their reporting is to say this was a "DMCA takedown notice" or "DMCA notice" or (ugh) "DMCA". This was none of these things.

CVE-2023-21036 / acropalypse is absolutely bonkers.

Apparently for 5+ years the cropping / editing tools for screenshots on Google Pixel phones was only overwriting the start of the screenshot PNG file, but not truncating.

All screenshots shared for the past 5+ years might have data recoverable from them. Demo available at acropalypse.app/

Google still hasn't communicated anything on this.
