if ByteDance divests they should do so into 8 smaller companies called BitDance

Before folks start railing on open source - let’s not forget there are plenty of examples of undocumented backdoors in proprietary commercial products too, the Boeing 737 Max 9 for example

Mike Sheward

people are saying the xz backdoor is likely the work of a nation state actor, and given that it appears to been slow rolled for a couple of years and immediately became obsolete before it was fully launched - you do have to admit it bears the hallmarks of a government IT project

It’s true! If this had been authored by the private sector, it would have been started and killed 6 times across 3 different teams, released before it was ready, then suddenly sold off and killed by a capricious C-level who heard that something else is the new hotness now.

“My god. The weapon is armed, the countdown has begun, and the only known copy of the override code is stored on this old Nokia 5510 with an empty battery. We’re doomed.”

“Everybody chill the fuck out. I got this. Just gotta crack open the old cable drawer. Here you go.”

“You have a Nokia 5510 charger, but why?! That phone hasn’t been sold in over 20 years!”

“Let’s just say, I always knew this day would come.”

“Wow. Your decision to never throw away cables just saved humanity honey…honey…time to wake up honey…”

@SecureOwl As I just put two *more* unused cables into "the cable drawer." This takes a "C," that takes a "micro," the sat-navigation takes a "mini," and the power ports on the recently acquired car are "C" and not full size USB. *More* cables.

@SecureOwl Mastodon bot idea: Every day it writes a post similar to this but every time it's a different old phone or a different old connector needed, and people would boost the post around until they find someone who had that connector who then replies with an image of it.
Maybe someone can even keep a score 😁
