The #Lemmy team built a frontend client that looks and feels like a traditional phpbb forum. Awesome idea!

For those that don't know, Lemmy is basically like a federated Reddit, with community discussions.

Sadly, Diaspora has historically been a bad actor in the space, when it comes to supporting other protocols, or helping other platforms adopt their own.

Things really slowed down in the early 2010’s, with the departure of the original core team, and community development has kind of been stuck in a “life support mode” for nearly 9 or 10 years now. Some big features are coming down the pipe, but the attitude of “we don’t have developer resources to support that right now” has slowly mutated into a mindset of “we will never support something not made by us”.

I've been paying for this thing for a long time. It was a cool idea, and I enjoyed it when I was invested in it. It feels like dead weight. I ran this project badly, in the sense of community participation.

I'm late on payment, and at this point, I'm contemplating just throwing one last payment down before abandoning it. If anyone wants to adopt it instead and Run the Thing, let me know.

The more I think about Instagram, the more I hate it. Every time I open that app, it feels like a hybrid of a brand shop, algorithm content from loads of people I don't follow, and a million selfies of old flames that make me feel creepy. I originally joined to share neat pictures from my travels, but Facebook has squeezed the life out of it.

I think I'm going to take a step and shut mine down for good, after pointing to #Pixelfed. Dansup's mobile apps cannot come fast enough.

Critics of the Steam Deck have stated that the Deck “has no identity of its own”, partially because it “offers no exclusives”.

My brother in Christ, it can play almost any game produced within the last 40 years or so. Exclusives are a dumb concept to prop up walled gardens.

Vulkan optimization in games is kind of magical.

Regular Doom 2016, with OpenGL: Ehh, I’ll dance around 35 - 55 FPS due to lighting effects.

Same game with Vulkan: Here’s a stable 60FPS with pretty much everything cranked up. You’re welcome!

@sean My favourite things to host are Go apps.

No platforms, no interpreters, no nothing.

Just a statically linked binary. It's a bit heavy size-wise, yeah, but it's got everything it needs already in there.

With the possible advent of #FENEAS ramping down its organizations, I've been thinking about the possibility of (once again) rebooting WeDistribute and putting it into an easier, lighter publishing system.

Is there still an interest in reading news about the development of the #fediverse? What kind of things would you want to see?

In addition to having a fantastic graphics card and processor, using a monitor with a high refresh rate makes a huge world of difference that I couldn't understand before.

There's a smoothness to every animation that makes my jaw drop. Even basic "snap to grid" window animations feel exquisite now.

Putting this all together with gaming is an experience that makes me want to joyfully cry out "I DIDN'T KNOW! I DIDN'T KNOW!"

Also: AAA big-name game titles work beautifully in Wine now. In fact, it's such a good experience at the high end that I don't even recognize that I'm using it. It feels native.

With experimental Mesa drivers on Wayland, I'm playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 at almost max settings (1080p, no raytracing) and the level of detail, fidelity, and smoothness is fucking mind-blowing.

Granted, Proton and Vulkan are doing most of the heavy lifting here, but it's legitimately shocking. I remember when Wine barely worked, and Linux game ports were incredibly shoddy.

Theme development on PeerTube isn't too bad. The only thing that kind of sucks is that you have to publish themes to NPM, and then wait 24 hours for the PeerTube global theme tracker to pick up the package for instances to download.

It'd be nice if I could just upload a compressed folder instead.

#SporadicFE is an ongoing effort to port the #Diaspora UI to a Pleroma backend. The effort stalled out for a while, due to the limits of my knowledge in working with JavaScript, particularly in restructuring the API wrapper stuff to properly use Vuex. I'm looking at overcoming this, but help would be nice.

It currently supports:
✅ Polls
✅ Custom Emoji
✅ Aspects (sorta)
✅ Markdown Rendering
✅ Likes and Comments

Philip K Dick fans: I want to read more of this guy's books, but don't know where to start.

I read "Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said" - loved the story, hated the ending. Great concept, bad payoff.

I'm aware of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", "The Minority Report", "The Adjustments Bureau", "A Scanner Darkly", and "Ubik", but have read none of them. Are there any other gems I should add to the list?
