Happy birthday and thank you!

I just came to think that I started using KDE when it was at version 1 Beta 4. (Or was it 3?)

not saying i dont appreciate all this but maliit is such a rough experience without ctrl or meta its not even funny 😭
like i love that you're supporting artists but as someone who uses kde on his tablet its painful to have to reattach my physical keyboard just to undo something while drawing.

@kde @kde I absolutely love KDE's focus on creative apps and usability in the creative industry!

I can't wait for this release to get pushed to Fedora! I'm eager to check out the tablet settings panel in particular!

@kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social I remember finding KDE Beta 4 on a Red Hat install CD (which I bought for £2 because I didn’t have a CD writer). I think it was Red Had 5. It was the first I’d heard of KDE and it was already a solid desktop.

The project has come a very long way since then, congratulations!

KDE

Plasma 6.2 will be out on the 8th of October, but meanwhile... Help us test Plasma 6.2 Beta!

One of the upcoming features is the drawing tablet assistant. Install Plasma 6.2 Beta, try out the assistant with your own device. If you find a bug 🪲, report it!

Lovely! Looks like you’re using rsms.me/inter/ in this video. Will you be using it as the default Plasma font now? If so, good choice (I’ve been using it for years)! 🙂

Plasma 6.2 Beta has been released... Beta testers assemble 🦸‍♀️!

Nice idea, using 2 batteries instead of one. Now to see if it can be hot-swappable

@kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social Great to see KDE giving the PIM some love. I think it's one of the areas on which KDE has been lacking. Great work!

Hey, I am really excited about this!

A few questions:

1. Will this be developed in parallel to #Kontact, are the same devs working on it, is only the UI changing and background things kept the same? Will it replace Kontact some time, swapping out, or getting the name?
2. Is #CalDAV support possible currently, in the past or planned? It is a major dealbreaker for me currently.
3. Are CalDAV features supported by #DAVx5 planned? Like journals?
4. The #Flatpak is kinda bundled in the “Kontact” Flatpak. Will this change?

Phone Link is Microsoft's late and closed source alternative to KDE Connect. It requires you sign in to a Microsoft Account for it to work.

support.microsoft.com/en-us/to

This means all the transactions between your phone and your PC are monitored and sucked up by Microsoft.

Interesting that they bothered to make this considering KDE Connect already works on Windows

Godnroc

I love hearing about a new tool like this.

@kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social I use KDE connect (always connected) and #LocalSend sometimes #plainapp depends on my need and mood. Does the job and reliable than link(I've used it, bad experience).

25 years ago I proposed to a schoolboard they could save a whopping bill by switching to open source alternatives, indeed dropping the NT server licenses alone would be enough to build and staff one new school per year!

I was told, with a straight face, matter of fact, that "to prepare children for their future means teaching the commercial products we use today."

They then outsourced their IT to a certified Microsoft partner.

And people wonder why I'm no fan of Public Education.

I love KDE so much. If I didn't rely on certain creative software for work, I'd ditch macOS in an instant.
And I think that's one of the reasons people just aren't able to switch over from Windows.

But hey, every other computer in the house that isn't a Mac runs Fedora KDE. 😃

I remember decades ago when a US court convicted Microsoft to seperate their browser from windows. The court wrote the verdict that Microsoft ilegally tried to prevent competion . Since Microsoft lost it shouldn't be difficult to file the next suit .
