I saw somebody picking up cans and bottles today, and he had a really special wheeled grocery bag. I asked him if he made it himself, and he said that his neighbor made it for him.

The frame is a standard wheeled cart for carrying your groceries home by foot. But the bag! The bag is an amazing work of craft. The pop tops from soft drink cans have been woven together with beige and brown fibers.

My cool neighbor has outdone herself on coolness. Look what she made and left in my rock garden. The creativity! The details! They each have a backstory, too. For example, the one with the elaborate goldenrod hat is a bard. Two of them are hunter-gatherers.

Two more characters made of acorns. One has thighs made of tiny pine cones, and is holding other pine cones in an outstretched hand. The other has an elaborate feathery boa and feathered cap made of goldenrod gone to seed.
Two little characters made out of acorns. One has long ears made of helicopter seeds. The other has wings made of helicopter seeds plus a red cape made of a maple leaf. This one is also holding a string of tiny pea pods.

Context: the day before, we were chatting in front of my rock garden. She said the mounds of plants always remind her of hobbit homes, and she could imagine little characters made out of acorns.

It's a perfect October day. My camera roll is full of colors again
#FallColors

Looking straight up in a forest, where the leaves are changing color. we see a mix of green, yellow, orange, and red, against blue sky.

A dragonfly landed on my daughter's shoulder. I was taking pictures and then he jumped to my hand. My daughter held out her finger and said, jokingly, "step up," like you would say to a pet bird. And he did! And then we filmed him hopping back again to my hand

I had a big whopping three pink hydrangea flowers this year. Here's the youngest one, still coming in to its colors.
#hydrangea #bloomscrolling

A pink hydrangea flowers against green background. The petals are pink on the tops but are still cream at the center. They will turn more pink as the flowers mature. The light is hitting a part of the flower making it more bright, while the rest is in the shadow.

Some hydrangeas photographed yesterday. Anything photographed today will involve rain. Anywhere between 70 and 120 mm expected. So no bicycling to work, unfortunately. But at least I can pick up some badly needed groceries as long as I'm out with the car.
#FlowersOnFriday

Looking up at a white panicle hydrangea flower, against a partly cloudy sky. There are flower shapes with four perfect petals and round dots in the center. And then there are the real flowers, I think, the parts with pollen for the insects, and they look like little clusters of tiny developing grapes. An overall ethereal look, with the clouds in the sky echoing the cloudlike flower.
Another picture of the panicle hydrangea. The late afternoon sun is backlighting it, and we see some sky and some dark fence behind it.
One more picture of the panicle hydrangea. In this picture, the less developed florets at the tip are dark and in high contrast to the partly cloudy sky. At the bottom of the flower, where the flowers are more developed, it looks fluffy and white.
