I saw somebody picking up cans and bottles today, and he had a really special wheeled grocery bag. I asked him if he made it himself, and he said that his neighbor made it for him.

The frame is a standard wheeled cart for carrying your groceries home by foot. But the bag! The bag is an amazing work of craft. The pop tops from soft drink cans have been woven together with beige and brown fibers.

@dillyd looks like something my grandmother would make. She used to crochet with bread bags.

val dillyd

@zannesan that's wonderful. Do you still have any of the things she made?

@dillyd Wow as a recycling collector myself, I love this concept. My bag is falling apart and I'm quite creative, but I'd never have considered this- it is an amazing idea

AriSunDog, Spooky Version!

@dillyd That is an astounding revival of a wheeled grocery cart!

In the 1970s we used to make things out of all sorts of other things. One of the things that I loved was some neighbors made was a full-sized volleyball net made out of those plastic six pack can rings that kill sea creatures.

I still have a couple of craft books from the 1970s called "Making Things" that are all about upcycling trash this way. I think we need to start doing this again.

val dillyd

@arisummerland wonderful! And yes! I'm feeling quite inspired to do more upcycling

Just realized I could have used my CoolNeighbor tag. His neighbor is as cool as my neighbor who made the acorn figures for my rock garden. It's especially reassuring to have those cool neighbors now. And to try to be cool neighbors, ourselves.
