#vim: much more versatile than I thought but still just for wankers. ππ So, #Windows will not come with #Recall #spyware activated, just Recall spyware pre-installed. What a relief. Not. π https://www.theverge.com/2024/6/7/24173499/microsoft-windows-recall-response-security-concerns If I'd own a company which is still using #Microsoft, I'd have a migration path to #Linux worked out meanwhile. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH UBUNTU 24.04 π‘ I'm so glad that I got rid of #Ubuntu (actually #Xubuntu) and #snap. Now, I need to get rid of #NixOS as well, despite having invested (too) much effort. π #Debian is my true and only safe heaven, as it seems. @publicvoit Amazing you should say that right now, because I think I am going to do the same... but am chicken.... and am being pulled by the dark side of the force in the form of a fruit with a bite out of it and a famous evolution biologist ... arghhh ... nooooo @publicvoit I was so annoyed by this snap crap that I swapped to mint and then to nixOS and now I am gravitating to apple in the fall-out of the nixOS debacle but the resisting the force, and might take a pit-stop at debian... but my poor brain... and expect to crash land.

Now that I have migrated some of my hosts to #NixOS, I do have a bad feeling because of #Microsoft and most probably GitHub being hacked. As mentioned on https://www.karl-voit.at/2023/09/12/nix/ the deep #GitHub dependency turns out to be a real downer for this OS. @publicvoit many years ago (the 90s) if you were online you assumed everything you said and did was getting scraped by the NSA/ Americans. I don't think much has changed. If you want to keep something private, try to keep it off the web. It is safe to assume (big) nation states have access to everything, or if not, hoover up everything they can and will have access soon enough. @publicvoit We really need an user-friendly alternative to #GitHub. Love seeing that both @forgejo and #GitLab work on ActivityPub support. Can't wait to try it out. I've seen the #Microsoft #OneNote hype and warned the users of long-term lock-in effects. Then OneNote failed and people lost (parts of) their data. I've seen the #Evernote hype and it happened again. Now, I see the #Obsidian hype. (At least the file format is an open one.) π€· https://karl-voit.at/2021/01/18/tool-choices/ If you want to spare yourself some effort, think of starting with a solution with no lock-in: https://karl-voit.at/orgmode/

@publicvoit oh, #orgmode has lock-in. It's just you're locked in forever instead of until the service ends. @publicvoit but obsidian isnβt lock in, itβs all just md, Iβm using it and two other apps simultaneously on the same file set and itβs not a problem. (Sure, there are js features that might not work everywhere, and Iβm very conservative with them for that reason.) RT @MikeCollierWX@twitter.com This is near Cromwell, OK.
