I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH UBUNTU 24.04 😡
news.itsfoss.com/ubuntu-24-04-

I'm so glad that I got rid of #Ubuntu (actually #Xubuntu) and #snap.

Now, I need to get rid of #NixOS as well, despite having invested (too) much effort. 😞

#Debian is my true and only safe heaven, as it seems.

@publicvoit Amazing you should say that right now, because I think I am going to do the same... but am chicken.... and am being pulled by the dark side of the force in the form of a fruit with a bite out of it and a famous evolution biologist ... arghhh ... nooooo
I was hoping this video would save my bacon in debian.....

@publicvoit I was so annoyed by this snap crap that I swapped to mint and then to nixOS and now I am gravitating to apple in the fall-out of the nixOS debacle but the resisting the force, and might take a pit-stop at debian... but my poor brain... and expect to crash land.

@adingbatponder @publicvoit Why a 'snap crap'? What is wrong with it?

@theron29 @publicvoit I had dozens of firefox snaps open and it jammed by machine all the time.. I had in ubuntu to use the command line to shut them down... and I think they are not FOSS which I seek to avoid - if I am going to use linux I want only FOSS stuff... otherwise I can use apple and save myself the headache... but maybe I am wrong about snaps and it was my fault that they fouled up my machine.

@kravemir Because there are a ton of issues I'd have to blog about.

For starters read my thread: graz.social/@publicvoit/112197

@publicvoit @kravemir When a easy to use module doesn't exist in Nix, you usually have to fallback to writing appropriate config files or gsettings commands for gnome for instance.

I agree it can be intensive.

I saw you dislike the nix language. Have you considered guix?

Miroslav Kravec

@publicvoit thanks for the answer.

Yes, NixOS has its flaws,...

However, so far it's the best Linux distro, that lets one setup system in declarative way, instead of imperative.

I.e. the best "docker for OS", AFAIK.
