Masto uses csv and Pixelfed uses json for the blocklist formats 😅

Fortunately it isn't too complicated to convert between them! github.com/dansup/masto2pixel/

The official @pixelfed mobile apps will use on-device translations, requiring no additional setup for admins, and no privacy concerns for users!

In addition, users will have the option to disable translation on their posts if they don't want it uploaded to a 3rd party service!

@dansup @pixelfed so it's opt-out ? Then it's a major privacy issue.

Trankten :vf: :tkz: :lat:

@dansup @pixelfed Last time I tried to get a Píxelfed instance running I noticed there were a lot of Spanish translations missing so the web frontend was like 30% English and 70% Spanish.

Has there been any changes made to this? Just curious because the translation site reported it was around 99% if I remember correctly. I want to get my Píxelfed instance running again but the language thing gave some problems to the users. (It has been some months already, so just asking!)

Adding DeepL, LibreTranslate and Google Translate support to Pixelfed!

[DATA EXPUNGED]
dansup

Dealing with a paypal scammer that keeps rejoining and increments their username so I came up with an idea I'm going to call Sentinel

With this, you will be able to define patterns and actions that are triggered when matched.

In addition, you will be able to scope SentinelPattern rules to specific models/data like usernames, remote account bios, remote alt text, and more! Actions can delete, unlist, notify, etc

Admins will have a UI tool to build these easily and share via import/export ✨

@dansup In a different sphere I wished for a system to tell me the person most like X.
X having died the previous day, and the population being 1600-30000 people in a nearby area.

I found looking fairly regularly at the upper and lower ends of some variables was a bit useful.

There's wider scope in such data oversight, I think.

I prefer light mode on @pixelfed but dark mode on @Mastodon 😅

I prefer dark mode on the @pixelfed mobile app though, it's nice to have choice!

@dansup you sound like a man who needs a purple lightsaber!

Cameron

@dansup @pixelfed @Mastodon I remember when we didn't have "Dark Mode" as an option in IDEs... it's amazing we got any programming done at all back then. Although a lot of mine was done in emacs, on FreeBSD, with no window manager, so I guess that's kinda like dark mode :D

Timothée

@dansup @pixelfed Could you add the choice « based on OS setting » in the mobile app? 🙏🏻

dansup

Based on a request, I'm going to ship a Photo reblogs only setting! #pixelfed

Edit: This was shipped a few minutes later! github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/p

@dansup
Alors ça c'est de la réactivité rapide !
C'est super que vous preniez en compte les demandes des utilisateurs

Continuez comme ça, vous faites un travail superbe

@dansup FYI, I've found that the problem with "Load More" not working seems to be related to this? When I turn off Reblogs, it'll only load a couple posts in my home. Reblogs on, timeline seems to work.

Thanks for that photo reblogs only setting!

dansup

Edit: Fixed!

I'm aware of a bug in reblog posts where likes aren't reactive, working on a fix!

.::PH4GE::.

@dansup I would imagine that's the reason for this no?

dansup

Reblogs on @pixelfed bring a whole new experience, the home feed seems much more active!

What are your thoughts?

@dansup @pixelfed pretty, remember me Orkut and Facebook.

I really liked.

This is a new social network? If yes, give me the link, please.

amd

@dansup @pixelfed Text reblogs (and text posts in general) seem out of place.

Image reblogs are 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

dansup

If the Admin Dispute Resolution idea is determined to be counter productive by @welshpixie, I will drop it!

I don't want to cause more harm than good, and they brought up some good counter points, what they decide will be my final decision.

Being a good leader of @pixelfed sometimes means giving control to someone else, and knowing when to.

Cameron

@dansup @welshpixie @pixelfed TBH I think a more worthwhile challenge to overcome may be trying to steer the fediverse to the user-centric path, rather than the instance-centric one it seems to have landed on.

I can see the challenges, especially with a media heavy instance type like pixelfed, but more flexibility for users to move on from instances if they disagree with admin blocking choices, or just generally dislike the server, would be a more worthwhile goal.

✨ Synced Settings

The official pixelfed mobile app will soon sync your in-app settings like dark mode, everytime you login!

We're working with @PixelDroid to support it and other 3rd party apps so your settings can sync across all clients!

Innovation is the game, @pixelfed is the name 😎

Conny Duck

@dansup How many people are you? You implement like 10 new things per day, that is impossible

dansup

I'm all for the option to display text-only posts or reblogs, but I have no intention of allowing users to create text-only posts in @pixelfed, to do so would go against our core mission of photo sharing.

Groups will support text-only posts, but those won't appear on your profile or your followers feeds.

Pixelfed will remain dedicated to photo/video sharing 📸

Stark

@dansup @pixelfed

Yeah, otherwise, you would just be like #Mastodon, but it does add functionality and stops profiles from needing a second service for text-posts. So, I think your implementation would be great.

Just look at how #Youtube community announcements are used.

#PixelFed

dansup

I'm not a fan of text post reblogs in the @pixelfed mobile app, but I can see some users wanting them.

I will probably make this a setting to show text post reblogs, and maybe an optional algorithm to limit to once per X photo posts (and with a horizontal scroll/pagination)

@itsmistermoon :lilelogo:

@dansup @pixelfed I admit it looks pretty good (you have a pretty good eye for these things, let me tell you), but I wouldn’t want text posts to get in the middle of my home feed, so… maybe put them in a different tab? like Instagram does on user profiles with all those clutter features, but actually useful

dansup

I hope @pixelfed stories improves user retention in a healthy/organic way.

Users will be able to disable the story carousel and we don't send push/email notifications.

It's not so much about getting users addicted or FOMO, because you have to have friends/network in the first place, rather it's about providing a privacy and ethical alternative.

We don't have to shove stories down your throat to increase CPM/ad clicks bcuz no ads, we can do this right!

dansup

I see people question @pixelfed over @Mastodon, and that's fine (I ❤️ Mastodon, sent from Mastodon)

However I think it's important to note that Pixelfed has Stories, Collections, Portfolios and much more!

You can post pics on Twitter, but Flickr, 500px and Instagram still thrive!

Portfolios: portfolio.pixelfed.social/dans

Collections: pixelfed.social/c/530360750719

Use whatever best fits you, and know that @pixelfed + @Mastodon work great together ✨

@dansup @pixelfed @Mastodon are there any hosts? My developer chops are rusty, and if I can't subscribe to a host for it's care and feeding, as much as I'd like to, I wouldn't be able to use it.

tim dalton

@dansup @pixelfed @Mastodon I did set up an account there but haven't used it yet. Was / is difficult to figure out best use.

dansup

Pixelfed has never supported the `/peers` or blocked instance endpoints, so it's been difficult to know who they federate and don't with.

This was intentional, but now I think we should make this info public by default (and allow you to hide, but I may limit pixelfed.org + mobile app server list to instances with public block/peer lists)

I've never seen pixelfed.social on a blocklist, thank gosh, but yeah this info should be public I think

dansup

I wanted to ship the ADR (Admin Dispute Resolution) mvp before announcing it, but in light of recent events, I figured now is more appropriate.

From my observations, when an instance gets #fediblock'd and notices it, half of the time the admin of that instance takes action to fix that, but that isn't easily determinable.

My goal with this is to provide @pixelfed admins a public service to dispute such events and make it easy for them to get unblocked when appropriate.

Shipping soon!

dansup

@pixelfed In terms of the actual service, I was thinking of using HTTP sigs to validate admin actions and allow them to comment/provide context during the process, and this would be publicly viewable via the website.

Instance A: Blocks Instance B for federating with Instance C

Instance B: Blocks Instance C and requests validation

ADR service notifies Instance A that Instance B complied with their conditions

dansup

Now to write some code to periodically export FediDB data to a sqlite database and push to S3 so activitypub.network and other #APnet can update!

github.com/dansup/apnet 😎

HistoPol (#HP)

@dansup

Sounds like I could archive all my toots with that code...?

dansup

Is it just me or does fedidb.org load much faster than the-federation.info and fediverse.observer?

I added links to all 3 on activitypub.network listings, activitypub.network/instance/m
