Dubstep won a Grammy 🔥 And Skrillex made a really good speech, check it out skees! Seriously though, being a fediverse developer is challenging, but y'all make it worthwhile. I make mistakes sometimes, but your feedback is what saves the day. "He just some Steve Jobs obsessed tech bro" "Where the fuck is Sup?" "I heard he doesn't brush his teeth" I've heard it all, and I appreciate the criticisms just as much as the complements. Y'all keep me grounded and remind me that I'm building @pixelfed for the people, you people, and you really shape the direction of the project!

@dansup The more you impact the world, the more supporters but also detractors you get. I think that all famous people get bullied at some point, especially on social media. That's not good obviously but it's also important to focus on your goals, ignore nasty behaviors but continue to welcome constructive comments, positive or negative. Keep the good work 😝 Someone recently suggested a new @pixelfed timeline based on remote posts from only Pixelfed servers. This has me intrigued. We have everything required to make this possible, the only thing missing is my approval. So guess what I'm working on atm, trying to quickly implement this to include in the new app build due out any day now. This is what I love about :pixelfed:, your ideas and feedback help shape our project and ideas like these are crucial to our success. Keep the ideas flowing ❤️ 58% of all Pixelfed users are on instances that have updated to the latest version (v0.11.11) that contains an important security bugfix. Keep in mind this version was only released 5 hours ago. Great job :pixelfed: admins! Edit: We're back, after only 25 minutes of downtime! Pixelfed.social will be undergoing maintenance in about 25 minutes, and the service will be temporarily unavailable. We're expecting the upgrade to take 30-60 minutes. 🚨 Pixelfed admins: please update ASAP to v0.11.11 More information will be published on Feb 25 to give admins time to update. https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/security/advisories/GHSA-gccq-h3xj-jgvf

Added a new `app:instance-manager` command to Pixelfed! You can use this to re-calculate stats, ban/unban or unlist/relist instances! https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/4902/commits/6921d3568e7662b55268a0b2ab5799758735b74a I also shipped some API updates that enforce these banned domains across various endpoints! I'm also working on a whole new Instance section on the admin dashboard, it will be much easier to manage instances and users! Some people assumed the hashtag follow bug was an indication of a switch to an algorithmic home feed and let me just say, I would never do that without some form of warning and community consensus. It's a bug.

💅 Kudos to #mastoAdmins Almost 50% of active Mastodon servers are running v4.2.5 which fixes a critical bug! v4.2.5 was released only 19 hours ago

@dansup Not only kudos to the admins, but also thanks to developers & users who make the admins aware. It's a real community thing! Did you know @pixelfed limits Direct Messages to 1-on-1 conversations? Unlike Mastodon and others, when you mention another account, we treat that as a link instead of including them in the convo and sending them a copy. Spammers cannot abuse Pixelfed to send the same DM to multiple accounts! (I'm aware that this breaks group chats which we don't support yet, but I do have a solution in mind)

@pixelfed Neat! I've often wished I could easily @ mention someone on Mastodon without pinging them. I mean, you can always post a link, but outside of certain clients, that usually takes readers to a page outside the instance they're signed into, so they can't interact with it without that annoying copy-paste rigmarole. Of course, the ability to @ mention someone you *do* want to ping is still nice, but I suspect that's easier to work around: Just DM pingee a link to the discussion. Btw, I recently shipped a fix in @pixelfed for Instagram Import, specifically to support the latest export format from IG. If you've had issues importing your IG data to pixelfed.social, I encourage you to try now, and let me know if you run into any issues! I expect other instances will update and they to will have support for the latest IG export format.

@dansup @pixelfed Sorry, one more problem detected: The images can be seen within the profil timeline, but if I click one single image, I will not be transfered to it's post. Error message: "Something went wrong Edit: Shipped and now available! ✨ Instagram Import + S3 Shipping soon! I'm aware of a certain Pixelfed instance being targeted by spammers and used to deliver spam to accounts across the fediverse. The same thing happened with Lemmy last summer, and was caused by a dangerous config cocktail: - Open Registrations - No email verification - Less active moderation (waiting to get reports rather than finding this from paying closer attention) There are some things I can improve in Pixelfed, but these 3 are dangerous when used together!

Hi @dansup, as a preventative measure I noticed the feature below was announced. https://mastodon.social/@pixelfed/111765049556234157 But how do we enable it? BoostBot Farms R US. That is what will happen. Yes, you can defederate, but in the meantime, you still get to play whack-a-mole. Edit: This was fixed! I'm aware of an issue affecting FediDB software pages, a fix will be deployed tonight! While Pixelfed does support the MastoAPI, we do require auth for many endpoints, including the one used in the CCP scraper! |
@dansup I've managed to update nixorigin.one in less than 30 minutes after you've merged the pr🤗
@dansup
If you haven't already, probably good to start contacting admins for the larger servers directly?
(A Mastodon-style feature for prominently announcing security updates on the admin page could be a great addition for the future too...)
