@homegrown @liaizon and we have another scrapper who openly admits that will sell the data (first 10 days for free lol) https://ursal.zone/deck/@Ursalzona/112602899062032969 They are on Mastodon Social too. Andrei is the mastermind. I blocked them all.

@homegrown @mastodonmigration @maya_b Jack notably hates Bsky and was immediately bullied off the site @homegrown @mastodonmigration That's cool. I vote to push a major version change to Dorsey's nose if the worm doesn't opt out right here in the next five minutes. @homegrown @lisamelton @mastodonmigration From a legal standpoint, how does a bridge differ from any other Fediverse server, which are all already opt-out by default?

@homegrown @nellie_m I've noticed missing profiles but looks like you've fix that ๐ @homegrown If you're on managed hosting, you can (and probably should) use relays, the built-in tool for this!

@homegrown@social.growyourown.services Imagine naming something "mastodon.social" when it could be named something like "gaypirateassassins.club" โ:blobCat_mlem:โ @homegrown What if I want to run an instance dedicated to the homonymous metal band, or to ancient extinct mammals, and therefore "Mastodon" doesn't hold any reference to the social network? Sometimes I can see the argument for brand recognition, unless the brand name is a word in the English vocabulary. If you want brand name protection, then you should pick a name that isn't on the vocabulary. You can't own a vocabulary word and prevent people from using it. You don't need to be a technical person to have your own server on here. You can find links to managed hosting companies for many kinds of Fediverse servers (including Mastodon) here: :Fediverse: https://growyourown.services/grow-your-own-social-network Managed hosting means the company does all the installation, maintenance and upgrades on your behalf. Am I missing any Fediverse managed hosting providers from this list? Do let me know if I am!

@homegrown What would you say are the biggest pros and cons to having your own instance? @homegrown @jcrabapple Do you think the presumption that instances should by default federate with any new instances that show up will survive as the #Fediverse grows and has more spam (and worse)? I worry that running a small instance could become like running a small mail server, where it's difficult to get others to accept your messages. Hello to all the new people! ๐ You can choose any Mastodon server to sign up on, but you can also make your own server if you want! You don't need tech skills or deep pockets, you can get a managed hosting account for about 6 euros a month. (Managed hosting means the hosting company does all the tech stuff.) If you want more info including a list of companies that offer this, have a look at: GYOS is aimed at non-technical people, so it focuses on managed hosting. If you're slightly techy though, I'd highly recommend these projects. They let you add services to your VPS or home server through simple graphical interfaces: Yunohost at @yunohost, more info at https://yunohost.org Libreserver run by @bob, more info at https://libreserver.org FreedomBox at @freedomboxfndn, more info at https://www.freedombox.org |
