Oh my, I am glad I have chosen STS as my main "academic disiplinary identity". What a nice topic for the next 4S convention, "Reverberations":

"Reverberations are also relays—wave-like, rolling, seismic or subtle—between points in space and time, felt evidence of distant yet interpenetrating events. In this sense, to reverberate is to exhibit a strange kind of force—an infinite regress of effects perceived as causes perceived as effects. For STS, reverberation figures science and technology not only as an effect of myriad practices and multiple agencies but also as normative sites where diverse politics and disparate struggles are resounded, reworked, and—consequentially—reactivated".

What a poetic Call for Papers ! 💗💗💗

Also, a big thumbs up for the decision to allow the event to be hybrid, for respect of environment, public health and other...

My dear friend is looking for a WG in Leipzig
He is great! Please share and write me if you have ideas for him.

My name is Dima (he/him), and lm looking for a WG to move into within the next few weeks. I'm 34 years old and have been living in Leipzig since 2023,
building my life here in Germany.
In my free time, I go to concerts and other events, study programming, work on my own projects, and simply enjoy the opportunity to live and grow. I have a
visual impairment, but it doesn't prevent me from leading an active life. I enjoy cycling and spending time in nature.

I'm vegan, don't drink or smoke, but I'm totally fine with others living differently as long as it doesn't directly affect me. I appreciate coziness a friendly atmosphere, peace, and order at home. I strongly oppose any form of discrimination and hold anti-authoritarian views. I support my Ukrainian
friends in their fight against Russia's aggressive invasion, respect personal boundaries, and expect the same in return. believe that open communication
can solve any issues that might arise.
I prefer minimalism and avoid clutter both at homeband in life, making it easier to stay organized and focus on what's important. I speak English and Russian, and I'm actively learning German and
Ukrainian.

I'm open to all offers. Feel free to message me directly and please help by sharing this post.

Quittez X, enfin ;)

@Xeniax don’t Hail Mary until it’s really a cease fire. Still four days to go and some things can change in a second 🤔

Dear Fedi friends. I am choosing an alternative OS for my phone and looking into Graphene.

Does anyone here have any experience with Graphene? What do you think about it? What are the risks and benefits?

Would be so happy to hear your thoughts! Thanks

@Xeniax I've read that tap to pay functionality doesn't work, but that pretty much everything else does. You may want to try using F-Droid exclusively for a month or two before switching over.

@Xeniax i hope feedback of why i did not choose graphene is welcome!

i did not choose graphene because the project has a history of public conflict with other individuals and organizations. i don't want to privilege any over the others by linking to them directly, but you can find information about this pretty quickly with an internet search, and some info on the history page of their website as well

@Xeniax been using it for years and is pretty useful. The biggest issue I have run into is banking apps not working but usually the bank website in a mobile browser works just fine. Some other random apps like rideshare or transit will give a notification that says they will not run without google play services but usually they still work (sometimes I get a random crash but usually runs just fine) you can also choose to install a mirror of google play services as well if you want which would likely resolve those issues but I think banking apps would still be broken. Feels and runs really nicely overall and can't imagine going back to stock android.

Один князь велел убить своего коня, пошел его проведать, а из-под черепа коня выползла змея и как куснет его, да так, что князь помер. С годом змеи, мои чюваки!

– You can breath through a VPN

@Xeniax@mastodon.ml nono, you gotta be passive aggressive and normalizing the absurd. Lemme show you: "omg, breathing without vpn in 2k24, lmao"

Braw ☕🏳️‍🌈

@Xeniax you might be able to work around this without using a vpn, with goodbyeNasCongest

Hey! Myself and Francesca Musiani have an article published in Media, War and Conflict, "Can #Encryption save lives? Secure #messaging and its #infrastructures as loci of convergence between #Cyber #warfare and conventional warfare: The case of #ukraine".

The paper that analyzes how secure messaging tools and infrastructures that makes their deployment possible are now an integral part of a war and resistance infrastructure where the borders between cyber warfare and conventional warfare are becoming more and more blurred. However, we also underline the limits of a tool-centred approach and demonstrate how, in the case of the war in Ukraine, physical threats to civilians and infrastructure damage mean that encrypted messaging is one among several innovative technical and social practices of holistic self-defence deployed by Ukrainians.

The article as published is here journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.11
but an open access pre-print can be accessed on Hal: hal.science/hal-04834148

From an Iranian colleague:

"Iran has been effectively shut down for the third consecutive day. Government offices and some institutions, including schools, remain closed. The primary cause is the ongoing energy crisis, particularly issues in electricity and gas production. Reports of scattered protests have emerged. Power outages have disrupted internet services, and even SnappFood, the local equivalent of Uber Eats, has gone offline due to a lack of power at its data center.

There are reports of people being trapped in elevators and facing serious disruptions in accessing medical services. This has sparked widespread dissatisfaction, with some suggesting that if Pezeshkian fails to address the crisis in the coming months, he should step down. While I find it unlikely that this will happen, it's worth noting that these criticisms are coming from his own supporters"
