It's Just Me

My memory of this evening is the noise. Arriving at my grandparents' house, waiting for uncles and cousins. Going into the kitchen to "steal" something my grandmother had prepared. My grandfather, proud, showing the arrangement of the tables. Meanwhile, seeing my grandmother busy preparing something different for me because she knew I wasn't a fan of the "traditional" menu. I never asked for it, but she knew and did it for me.
Then everyone would arrive, and we would gather around the table. Often with the same jokes - every year, the same, like a ritual. When we were kids, we sat at a separate table. As teenagers, we were gradually "promoted" to the adult table. We sat at the table in groups of 15, 20, sometimes more. Chatting, joking, discussing. Noise. Warmth. Closeness. Life.

Serene years. Years of tragedies that have deeply marked this time of year. But that table was always ready for everyone. Year after year.

Then, little by little, the children who became teenagers grew into adults and started to be less present, caught up in their lives and, later, their new families. And the elderly grew older and, gradually, started to pass away. And not just the elderly, unfortunately.

But the memory of those years remains, of those moments, of that noise โ€“ the noise of joy, of family.

Whether tonight or any other night, cherish every single moment with your loved ones, because it is precious and it will remain so for the rest of your life.

And tonight, at BSD Cafe, panettone for everyone! ๐Ÿ˜†

A few days ago, I was complaining about Firefox on Android draining battery in the background even though it was set not to run in the background. After more than a week of using Iceraven, this issue has not occurred. Maybe it's too soon to celebrate, but...

What phone do you have and what is your operating system version?

It's Just Me

If you also hate the sound and annoyance of fireworks and firecrackers during these or other holidays, you'll totally get why sometimes I wouldn't mind going back to a time when making noise could warn predators of your presence.

@pythoneer This is a good to see. It contains enough bands that I love for me to be confident in your musical taste, but enough bands I've never heard of to open up lots of options for me.

Friends of the #BSDCafe and the whole #Fediverse,
today is my birthday! ๐Ÿฅณ

Hereโ€™s a photo of me on this very day in 1983. Who knows, maybe I was already dreaming of the BSD Cafe! ๐Ÿ˜Š

A childhood photo from 1983 showing a young child smiling with joy. The child has short blonde/brown hair and is wearing a beige shirt, with a warm and nostalgic atmosphere in the background.

For today's #ThankYouTuesday, I want to thank the honest people. The ones who don't make noise, who are not unfair to others, positive, and respectful.
Tonight, after the last two emails, I want to thank them more than ever.

Nice!โ™ฅ๏ธ Got a reply and Hetzner just ignores the bullshit from the Kremlin

Wish it where that easy with the war in Ukraine..

@stux Hetzner doing the right thing ๐Ÿ˜ (they're my host as well)

Stefano Marinelli

@stux this is good news for a big part of the Fediverse. Hetzner is hosting much (most?) of the Fediverse, so their approach is reassuring.

Alexey Skobkin

@stux Seems like those morons are starting to block Hetzner in Russia. I can't access any resources there without censorship circumvention tools.
That includes my dedicated server and my Mastodon node ๐Ÿคท
I did a survey and it looks like it's not deployed across an entire country's yet, but considering previous experience, I think it's a matter of time.
What a time to be alive ๐Ÿ™„

@Dolphinchaz Beautiful picture. TY for sharing. Color is wonderful and love the hi-rez. All the best to you.

In the silence of Sunday, nature reclaims its spaces, free to express itself as the rituals of other species unfold far from human noise.

A golden sunset reflects on a still pond, where a lone animal quietly rests on a fallen branch. Surrounding trees and leaves glow in the warm light, painting a serene moment of nature untouched by human presence.
