Spotify, shit as it is, is just one of many streaming music providers. There are no switching costs, and you can choose between a ton of providers. That's why Spotify doesn't need to be regulated under the DMA.

I swear to god people are allergic to basic facts and reality these days.

Streaming music market share pure chart. Spotify only has 37% among tons of other large and small providers.

@thomholwerda the best replacement for Spotify doesn't exist yet.

One of the many aspects to the project I am working on.

Replacing Spotify with an organization that pays it's artists.
Eugen Rochko

@thomholwerda Is Tidal really less than 2.2% market share? That's wild.

Surprised to see that Yandex has enough subscribers to show up on a worldwide chart

The best Android device today is a Pixel running GrapheneOS, with the Fossify applications installed.

This is such a good smartphone, y'all.

Kancept

@thomholwerda it just sucks that you gotta contribute to the Google machine and use a Pixel to get the goods.

Stefano Marinelli

@thomholwerda I agree. I feel, for the first time after ages, that I have control of my device, still being able to do anything I need

Everybody having "fun" with Apple Intelligence? I feel so bad for missing out here in the EU and I'm definitely thinking of giving up universal healthcare, low crime rates, proper social safety nets, relative lack of extreme poverty, proper vacation days, quality education, livable, walkable cities, and lack of active shooter drills at my kids' preschool for the ability to generate a shitty image everybody you send it to will hate you for.

In case you're using Firefox on mobile - so myself and like four others - disabling Firefox' new Facebook data collection feature is quite a bit harder than on desktop, but it can be done:

1. Go to chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml
2. Use the search field to find the entry for aboutConfig and enable it
3. Go to about:config
4. Search for dom.private-attribution.submission.enabled and set it to false

Done. This only works on Android, because Firefox on iOS is just a Safari skin.

Just a random thank you to all the #KDE contributors for resisting the urge to dumb down KDE or chase the touch dream at the expense of everything else. KDE is still mouse/keyboard first, and I hope it stays that way for as long as possible.

Stevez

@thomholwerda Omg. That thing is so dumb, that e.g. Dolphin can not search within hidden files/paths... Even if I tell it to show them... 😏

Unpopular opinion: the tech media's focus on battery life for laptops is entirely misguided and disconnected from reality. The vast majority of laptops spend 95% of their lifetime plugged in. The other 5% is when they're moved from one room to the next.

Don't @ me.

@thomholwerda @BrodieOnLinux eeehhhh

if I want smth that's plugged in, I'll use my desktop. if I want smth mobile that's what my laptop is for. give my laptop a good battery life.
