At long last, @FreeCAD v1.0 has finally been released. Here is an overview of the new stuff and some thoughts on how the community has been evolving.

Haven't done this type of post for a long time, I hope I'm not boring you to death :)

Me: Dear Santa, I was a good boy this year, please give me a Figma-like panel in
@inkscape for setting object properties.

Santa: I'm Mike Kowalski actually, but okay

@prokoudine @inkscape this sounds amazing......... Inkscape is a good alternative or can be a main application. For me Inkscape is the only vector graphics tool that i used and i get hiccups here and there. But i am happy that it is growing as a professional software and also a community.

@prokoudine @inkscape Holy shit, yes!! Is there a branch/MR for this?

Stealing the more compact alignment controls would be really nice as well, so you don't have to switch back and forth to that all the time.

Developers: we don't feel like using GTK for new complex applications. We'd rather use Qt or ImGui or whatever. In fact, we'd rather create our own toolkit than use GTK.

GNOME: okay, here is our 5-years strategic plan, mostly about inclusivity and promotion of GNOME. Note how we are not addressing your concerns. Please send us feedback.

@prokoudine Yeah... The "GNOME Toolkit" 😛 is a dead end for non-GNOME software, especially cross-platform. Just fork it already and call it the "General Toolkit", or use something else.

Nekko

@prokoudine To be fair, the GNOME Foundation doesn't handle anything in regard to the actual development direction.

Imagine me forking GIMP to rename it, then claim I built this amazing image editing program that is now used by gazillions of people around the world.

Now watch Seamly 2D team claim Susan Spencer came up with this great idea and built this open-source tool for fashion designers, but never mention principal developer Roman Telezhinsky who started the original project called Valentina and did the heavy lifting (continues to do in his original project).

Robin Gareus

@prokoudine I tried to imagine you forking and rebranding it, and stopped after reaching The PIMP (Prokoudine Image Manipulation Program) :)

@prokoudine #Glaxnimate 0.5.2 is just out today, with several interesting improvements. including addition of “Animation along Path” feature.

Beside KDEnlive usage Glaxnimate can also produce SVG animation output in SVG file, and SVG animation can be displayed standalone on most browser by just inserting the SVG as an image, without any scripting.

To the few people who know me mostly from my activity with GIMP, I'm retiring from the project:

@prokoudine Hey, it's always sad news to read when someone with your personal investment and so many contributions leaves a project. It feels like a big chapter is ending.

But it's always also a good time to tell a big thank you.

I'm sure you have plenty of new projects on the way, and I also hope you and your family will be safe in this fast-moving situation.

Take care! 💚
