This attitude toward technology is why I'll never buy a Fire tablet. Not that other vendors don't exhibit variations on the same attitude, but an Android tablet that locks you out of the broader Android ecosystem is especially egregious. We don't buy Apple in my house either. Software freedom is the prerequisite for many of the issues people struggle with when it comes to technology, privacy breaches, user lock-in, DRM, and hardware obsolescence.
