Did you know @pixelfed limits Direct Messages to 1-on-1 conversations?

Unlike Mastodon and others, when you mention another account, we treat that as a link instead of including them in the convo and sending them a copy.

Spammers cannot abuse Pixelfed to send the same DM to multiple accounts!

(I'm aware that this breaks group chats which we don't support yet, but I do have a solution in mind)

@dansup @pixelfed IMO ActivityPub (or OStatus, for that matter) is not a useful protocol for chats in the first place, and it should be standard practise to bundle an ActivityPub 'social media' site with an XMPP server if you want one.. They've got all of the nice stuff like e2ee and group chats and moderation figured out already!

@dansup @pixelfed
wouldn't it make sense to “just” provided user access to the To/Cc field of the messages creation? (I know that “just” is carrying a lot of weight there …)

@oblomov @dansup Yes, we plan to add support for Group Chats but we want to get this right, and with first class support for Sup 😎

@dansup @pixelfed @dave Does that mean you can’t tag someone in a photo or post? I’ve not gotten there with my Pixelfed app yet to test but would like to know ahead of time.

@JoshHrach @pixelfed @dave This is only for direct messages, when your post is public or unlisted you can mention multiple people like you can on Mastodon!

@pixelfed Neat! I've often wished I could easily @ mention someone on Mastodon without pinging them. I mean, you can always post a link, but outside of certain clients, that usually takes readers to a page outside the instance they're signed into, so they can't interact with it without that annoying copy-paste rigmarole.

Of course, the ability to @ mention someone you *do* want to ping is still nice, but I suspect that's easier to work around: Just DM pingee a link to the discussion.
