@pixelfed I’ve often wondered why we can’t log in using our username rather than email?

@FelipeFelop That is a security feature!

Usernames are public knowledge.

By limiting authentication to a semi-private identifier like email addresses, we can reduce the impact of brute forcing passwords/account takeovers.

We hope that makes sense!

@pixelfed I’ll have to think about that as by their nature email addresses are public.

We are considering offering an opt-in setting to be able to log in with your username.

@pixelfed Don’t most people let others know their email address, so that people can email them ?

@FelipeFelop Yes that's a good point, but at the same time, some people prefer to have private or service specific addresses using +suffixes, so that is why we are taking this approach!
