An early preview of the redesigned @pixelfed UI

It's about time we stepped out of the "federated instagram" shadow

While it will remain familiar, I'm eager to build on our Collections (think Pinterest), Exif data (flickr, 500px) and Portfolios (deviantart) features

We are not abandoning the social photo sharing aspects of IG

Rather we will be extending beyond them to provide new and exciting ways to share photos + videos, more details soon!

@dansup @pixelfed Looks awesome! Can't wait to stop calling #pixelfed as "decentralized #instagram variant".

@dansup @pixelfed I'd definitely love to see exif data like camera model, lens, speed, etc. It can be very instructive when you want to figure out how to take a similar type of shot.

dansup

@yogthos @pixelfed Yes, I also want to give users the ability to control Exif visibility in the sense they can search by model, lens, speed, etc if it's public or just display it, or make it only visible to you. More granular controls are the goal, with autocomplete suggestions and mass editing support too!

Photogs like yourself know exactly what you want to share, and we need to better support advanced users like yourself.

It's going to be great, just wait 😎

Yogthos

@dansup @pixelfed that sounds awesome!

On a bit of a tangent, there's an idea I was thinking about lately. It could be interesting to be able to open up photos for critique, and then to be able to reupload a version with fixes based on suggestions.

Would be particularly neat if you could look at before/after as well.

@dansup @pixelfed Speaking of collections: I like that feature and would really appreciate, if it would find its way into the mobile app soon 👍

Keep up the great work, thank you!

dansup

@gisiger @pixelfed Yes, we are working on first class support for Collections on the mobile app!

You'll be able to share photos from other apps to a Pixelfed Collection with a single tap, and we're going to allow users to add anything (links, posts, accounts, websites) as a collection item which really opens up a lot of possibilities!

Safe to say Collections are going to be a huge part of our 2024 journey ✨

@dansup @pixelfed Improved UX will be the biggest deal for me. Excited to see a more streamlined posting experience, for instance.

@dansup @pixelfed it looks promising! Any plans to improve the image loader? I remember last time I had to select one at time and repeat for each image

@dansup @pixelfed really looking forward what you will bring up. Love using pixelfed.

@dansup @pixelfed All I want is to be able to import my photos from Instagram and have them be set as public or be able to change the visibility manually.

@dansup @pixelfed Exciting! I'm looking forward to the updates

@dansup@mastodon.social @pixelfed@mastodon.social Thank you ofor your hard work!

Just an idea.

I suggest to add layout similar to Xiaohongshu (Chinese Instagram-Pinterest alike) mobile app.

I found it useful to discover multiple reference for my art at glance.

@dansup @pixelfed When ⅔ of your interface are empty space, then perhaps you should think twice about it. If there is one thing I want with photos it’s to see them as big as my screen or window allows.

Jared White

@dansup @pixelfed This is EXACTLY what I want. Music to my ears. 👏

@dansup @pixelfed

Thanks for sharing the update - lots of things to look forward to!

I never used Instagram so I am probably a tiny minority of users who don't have a reference point. I appreciate highlighting some of the things you are doing differently. Love collections and portfolio!

@dansup
It is definitely a shadow; I'm personally in the "huh, that's a thing, wake me up when someone figures out decentralized flickr" camp :)
