@karim Unfortunately we don't have any control over that. Hopefully Mastodon makes improvements for smaller instances as we have the same issue here. 🙂

@ivory Yeah, I have a number relays pulling in from a few instances to also pull in followed hashtags, but I guess that’s the downside of smaller instances.

@ivory Selecting the 'People' on the Explore page crashes the app. Can't relaunch it coz it defaults to that page when opened again.

@pratik Can you go to the bottom of the Support section of Ivory's settings and use the "Contact Us" button with a quick note about the crash? It should attach crash logs to the email as well so we can take a look.

@pratik We noticed your server doesn't have a People tab in the Explore section. Not sure if your instance admin configured the server that way, or if it wasn't available in that specific version of Mastodon. Either way, not sure why it's crashing. Try just restarting your device before reinstalling. Might save you some headache if that works.

@pratik Very weird. Definitely need that crash report somehow. But maybe someone else will run into the issue as well.

@ivory Wish I could help but it's a catch-22 situation. If I can recreate that crash, I can't launch the app to send the report. It happened even after I reinstalled the app after deleting it.

@ivory good stuff but i generally avoid anything that tells you it costs something AFTER you sign up. Stop participating in the enshitification of the web and tell ppl it costs come thing before they send you all their data -.-

@ivory Nope, it’s different. I am getting served different content, including dick pics of naked men. It’s like a compilation of popular / what’s tending posts. Some of which I follow, most of which I dont. Have tried the various options, none seem to be replicating my feed as I know it. This is what I meant. The original trending tab (as shown from my iPad which hasn’t been updated to 1.8 yet).

@peterp we didn’t build filters into that view since there’s not a lot of posts in that view and there’s multiple view types that would be irrelevant to timeline filters.

@ivory @peterp No, the “Trending” list. I have the same issue. On the “Search” screen in pre-1.8, the most common way I’d browse was by reading trending posts by clicking it on the search screen. I’d browse it until I ran out of English posts and start getting German. Now I only get 25 posts on the trending tab before I hit the bottom. I’ve lost the most common way I browse in the new update. BUT, I love that it’s integrated and doesn’t lose my position if I accendentally go back a view level.

@ivory yep! Previously I would go to Search > Trending at would load in more posts if you scrolled to the bottom of the list. Now when I go to Explore > Posts it doesn’t load more if you scroll to the bottom of the list.

@ivory I know it’s my own damn fault, but the Explore tab is useless on a single user instance. 😟 I wish a larger more populous instance could export that data for thr little ones.

@ivory is the black box around the Search field part of the design or a bug? Renders this way even after restarts. Edit: Appears to be a bug. If I decrease the text size in Ivory’s settings it goes away.

@ivory minor annoyance “bug”: I typically keep the app open to 2 columns (one for "Home" for each of my 2 mastodon accounts). when the app reboots, it reverts to one column, the width of the 2. when I add the second column, it's opens at the same width so I then have to resize the window down to 2 half-size columns rather than 2 ridiculously wide columns.

@Zenek73 you can set content warnings for posts, but not for individual media just yet. It’s on our list.

@ivory Observation: One thing I find weird about the UX in this release is that Trending Hashtags now appear in two places, on the Hashtags tab of the Explorer page and on the Hashtags page itself. This redundancy is unnecessary. Seems to me that a better design would be to have trending hashtags only on the Explorer page, and featured and followed hashtags on the Hashtags page.

@jesse it’s true, but you can get news to work. Recently learned you need to go to the trending section of your admin and then to “links” and have to manually approve publishers from showing up. Might have to keep checking it and approving for awhile until you get a good library going. And yes it’s unfortunate there isn’t an option to just approve all.

@SesameSquirrel It would be great if you could explain what you don't like about it and why each update has been worse? We've only been adding features and fixing bugs which is what everyone wants? Our original search tab didn't even work right as it was missing a bunch Mastodon search data. The new Explore page does everything the old Search did, but much more and search results are far greater. What part do you not like about it? |
