Since I use #Tidal instead of Spotify, I have to make do with this. My albums of the year.

@nullthegrey Higher audio quality, better royalties to artists

Dan Tucker

@Gargron @nullthegrey I quit Spotify for the same reasons when they paid Joe Rogan a mountain of money. That was the straw that broke the camels back.

@Gargron @nullthegrey The only problem is its high price. Do you have a family account you share with somebody?

Eugen Rochko

@elvector @nullthegrey Yes, I pay for a family account and share it with my wife and parents.

@nullthegrey @Gargron

Same price for higher quality, more money given to artists, and it has Neil Young.

I also like that it's purely music focused and doesn't have podcasts. Spotify is always pushing podcasts!

@JustinH @nullthegrey @Gargron
Mostly it's the better royalties for me, but the "missing" podcasts are really great, too.

edit: And of course it is not Spotify. I am not even aware out extensive tracking, like always wanting to know where I am.
And it's not Spotify.

@JustinH @Gargron I don''t know much about Tidal but now I've got to go do some research. I'm all for more money to the artists for sure.

@nullthegrey @Gargron There's no downside to switching, IMO.

If anyone's interested I used a service called soundiiz to transfer all my likes/playlists from Spotify. It's $5 (don't forget to cancel the subscription).

@Gargron Off topic, but I'm very happy with Qobuz...

@Gargron I went to tidal for Court and Spark. Totally worth it.

@Gargron "Unfortunately TIDAL is not currently available in your country." says to us

@Gargron Tidal is excellent ๐Ÿ‘I have quit premium plan on Spotify because it hosts and pays loads of money to misinformation junkie Joe Rogan. Never looked back - Tidal is very nice ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Saurav Shrestha

@gytis @Gargron another plus is tidal pays artists the most per stream. Also they provide unmatched information (when you want to view it) for the song/album

@Gargron I just quit Tidal today. Way too much music missing on Tidal. My most listened was massively different.

@Whiskeyomega @Gargron YT Music does even less. You'd have to look at my last.fm page, which doesn't include when I'm listening through my phone.

@Gargron I don't use Spotify or any streaming music services, I just have a ton of audio files... Last year I just tried to remember the artists that stood out, that I listened to the most, and made my list based on that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Eugen Rochko

@rasterweb You can use last.fm to keep track of what you listen to. I've been doing that since 2008!

Joe Steinbring :thisisfine:

@Gargron @rasterweb I was scrobbling back when I was using winamp. It looks like it should work with all the things.

Pete Prodoehl ๐Ÿ•

@joe @Gargron Scrobbling you say?

Yes, I am familiar with that term. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Back in 2010 I wrote a thing to pull all my scrobble data to my own web site and it's got 76,703 scrobbles.

@Gargron Personally I am disappointed with Leprous's Aphelion this time. As much as I like them, their vocal gone too far IMO. He always sounds cathartic and too dramatic. Since he never reduces the tension it doesn't evoke any feelings for me.

@Gargron I'm surprised you went with #Tidal since it's parent company is owned by Bluesky creator Jack Dorsey.

Mori

@Gargron Yeah, lifeโ€™s hard when youโ€™re not on #Spotify ๐Ÿคฃ

I guess Iโ€™ll survive on #AppleMusic a little while longer

Arturo Serrano ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ‘ฝ๐Ÿง™๐Ÿฆ„

@Gargron I just switched to Tidal, and discovering Half Moon Run has been a happy surprise.

armyofmike

@Gargron Antimai!! Itโ€™s a masterpiece.

@Gargron Not familiar with #Tidal, so I looked them up and quickly learned that:

Tidal is majority-owned by Block (formerly Square), which is owned by Jack Dorsey (formerly Twitter) and Jim McKelvey.

A couple of billionaires that just cut more than 10% of their staff too.

saw Leprous live for the first time, it was way more than I expected. Huge Queen vibes with the back vocals... Saw Tesseract tooo (insane) but missed Haken. Way too much $ for a single year down here.
