@ifixcoinops Honestly, I personally love Brother's separate the drum unit from the toner cartridge design. I get cheaper toner cartridges and in 7 years, I've only had to buy one new drum unit on a printer that did double duty as RPG player's printer and lawyer work printer.

@squishymage42 @ifixcoinops As someone who prints a lot, don't buy a second replacement drum, more parts are about to fail. You only get two full drum lifetimes then get a new one.

@squishymage42 @ifixcoinops @elithebearded But did you really need to replace the drum? Toner and drum lifetimes can be reset in a secret menu. I usually get 3 toner lifetimes per cartridge with an occasional side to side shake to even it out. And I’m not sure I’ve ever replaced the drums.

@jkaniarz @squishymage42 @ifixcoinops I reset toner count down and replace when printing gets faint. Drums I never figured out how to reset but they can develop issues like nicks or scratches on the print surface and that shows up in prints so it's not a total scam, but your level of quality concern (exacerbated if you print on things other than plain paper putting the drum more at risk).

RPG player? Man, those walls of dark grey every publisher loves to put all over their scenarios sure give the black print head a workout

@squishymage42 @ifixcoinops my mother board packed up after I replaced the drum for the first time.

@squishymage42 @ifixcoinops I needed a transfer belt for our HL4040cn, but that was no longer available.
On the 3rd toner (large) set.
Luckily I could return one new I had bought quite recently before the thing failed.

Gone back to inkjet as we don't print a lot each month. A Canon Pixma this time.

always tired (moved to chaos)

@AngelaScholder @squishymage42 @ifixcoinops Especially because sometimes I don't print often I got a laser because it won't dry up and things.

@project1enigma @squishymage42 @ifixcoinops Was for me the same reason.
Next to the LJ-6L I've had a Samsung MFP, which was not a good machine, and the Brother.

The Canon plus a set of ink was even less cost than a transfer belt would have been if still available, and as we have enough papers to print to not have a too long gap, it was just the easiest and cheapest option.

We're only with the two of us here, so there is not much, but some admin that we need on paper.

You, sir, have inspired me to check up on spare parts for my Brother laser, which I love more with each new story about HP.
