They adjusted the mv3 capabilities for adblockers. They listened to Adguard.
So I wouldn't be as drastic as "they will kill it", it's more of a we don't cripple it as badly as we planned before.

And the MV3-compatible uBlock Origin Lite (by the same developer) is already on Chrome Web Store, though yes it's much less capable than the MV2 version.
