You likely don't need a blog, you need a wiki.
Seriously, most people dont realise that what they really want is a little wiki to put notes and ideas into, not a blog filled with articles that you arent going to write.

@aquaqueer you should have a personal wiki. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. My website is a kind of personal wiki.

@jameschip the main thing stopping me is that i don't understand web security very well and i'm anxious about accidentally exposing information that i don't intend to

@aquaqueer @jameschip if you do not want to have a public website/wiki, I would recommend checking out tiddlywiki(varios ways to run it locally) or https://tiddlyhost.com/ if you want it on the web

@aquaqueer @jameschip note that this is not a comprehensive list of wiki engines, its just 3 things I happen to try for an extended period of time and found them nice for personal, local first, wiki like note taking

@jameschip i have been enjoying exploring the third space, which is a 'journal' or a microblog (in the sense of an actual smol blog, not like, twitter or mastodon.)

@jameschip so true, my website is one of the best things I’ve done. I store most of my notes there and organically grows as needed. You can reference notes and projects from everywhere and share them with others folks. No expectation to publish or make a serious pice of writing. I prefer the term digital garden or exobrain though :)

@bd yes, I also prefer the term digital garden, but I thought more people would know what I mean by wiki. I need a way to update mine more easily.

@bd @jameschip I very much like the idea of writing these things for myself and using a voice that addresses my future self. The notes don't have to be particularly coherent, they just need to fill the gaps of things that I tend to forget. It's a whole different way of going about making a website. |
Blogs carry an expectation of creating something polished for others to read. A blog is a product.
Wikis can be a collection of notes and partially formed ideas for you to use. A wiki is a tool.
